I crashed my 2006 Harley Street Glide on 4/11/2012! Totaled the bike! I'm pretty banged up nothing broken, but need to get back on track with weight loss and strength training. I went to the gym today did some light weight training. High reps light weight! My legs took a pretty good beating and my shoulder too! I just don't want this accident to stop my progress! Any suggestions or support?

Your body will tell you if you should continue lifting or not. Continue regular workouts unless pain starts then stop immediately and just rest and recover. Just eat at maintenance or a bit under to make sure u keep losing.

If you're suffering while lifting, you need more time to recover. Try swimming if there's a pool/river near you.
  • went down on my bike once - hurt my shoulder and banged up a little, was pretty lucky. Just modified my work out to what didn't hurt. kept everything low impact for awhile, especially you don't want to stress your shoulder. if your shoulder is banged up give it time to rest. just stay in your caloric range and keep your attitude positive

you will be better in no time, will continue to loose and be back on your bike soon!

wow, that sucks!! glad your fighting back and are able to work out.

yes, by all means take it easy; don't over do it. swimming exercise seems to be a smart choice. but most importantly eat within your calories, make smart food choices, and continue to log in your food diary. my doc once said to me that exercise is only 10% of weight loss, i know, hard to belive but that's what i was told...js.

btw... my husband has a 2012 street glide, traded his fat boy last fall so i'd have a more comfortable ride when with him.

there are brighter days ahead, get well!

(you may want to check out the group "looking bad on my bike" others on there might have some insight)
  • First off, heal!! Start slow and get back to a schedule!! Work the areas that were not injured and see a physical therapist for advice.

Buy a new bike and take a Motorcycle Safety Course.
How many miles on bikes do you have?

Let your body heal, but unless something is broken, keep everything flexible and moving, or you may run into more problems from the injuries.

Sucks about your wreck. I was in a bad wreck (car, not bike) years ago and started exercising again with pilates. I know people think pilates is a chick exercise, but it's really good for your spine and since you're not compressing with weights perfect for introducing post recovery and it strengthens your core so big plus for when you get back into lifting! Best of luck!

Sorry you crashed and sucks that your bike is totaled but on the bright side you're alive and can go bike shopping now :drinker:... anyway, as long as you are good with your calories you should not gain any weight. Exercise is an added bonus and your body will let you know if you're over doing it but you will continue to lose weight as long as you stay 10-20% under your TDEE... anyway, good luck and hope you're riding again soon brotha! :glasses:

Yoga / Pilates are great low intensity workouts..

What are you doing to cure the mental anguish of loosing your bike?

Ugh. Road rash sucks bad enough. Getting all sweaty with road rash is extra itchy and stingy. Looks like you are in a sunny climate too. I hope you aren't too badly scraped.

I know motorcycles are personal preference, but the Street Glide is one of the few Harleys I really like. Sorry you wrecked it. Do what you can. Heal. Glad you have insurance and weren't seriously hurt.
