Hi,
I'm looking for some good advice on how to start a strength training routine. I go to the gym daily but am intimidated my the machines and the people using them. I'd prefer to do it at home but have no idea where to start, do I have to buy expensive weights or can I start with bean cans? heh
Is there myabe a DVD you can recommend?
I'm only little (5'2" and 123.5lbs. I've lost over a stone since I started (interval training at gym and swimming +diet) but would like to kick things up a little!

you need to get a training partner to start weight training, someone who has experience theres too many variables to give a solid foundation via a message

If you are intimidated by the machines, you could always start with body weight exercises. Push-ups, squats, lunges, and others are all very good exercises and you could start at home if you feel more comfortable.

Forget the machines and pick up a barbell.

Starting Strength by Rippetoe - book by a long time lifting trainer
Stronglifts 5x5 - nice website, all info is free
New rules of lifting for women
    etc

My wife is about your size and was just in my garage squatting 50 and deadlifting 100 for her first time. Don't be intimidated by a little heavy lifting!
