Excruciating pain is never normal. Even my stress fracture on my fibula wasn't that bad. Please get it checked.

Running shouldn't hurt you. Please get it checked out as the pp said. Also, sometimes when it hurts when running means you may not have correct form, you could look into that as well. Hope you get to the bottom of the pain soon!

I agree it is not normal. I would get it checked out before running anymore. You do not want to make it worse.

Get your ankle checked out! Severe pain isn't normal.

Once you get the go ahead from a doctor, you might want to check out Chi Running. It's a decent book and the form tips are really useful!

Slight aches and pains are normal, such as stiffness that goes away as you warm up. Any kind of severe pain is not. If it is bad enough that it changes your gait (i.e. you limp) and it doesn't get better within a few minutes of starting your run, or if it gets worse as you run, stop running and rest for a couple of days. If it isn't better in a couple of days, see your doctor.

Excruciating Shin Splints! Yep, I've had those. I'm new to running and I've had a few workouts that have left me crying in the shower afterwards because my shins ache so bad. I've been told it will go away once my muscles grow stronger. For now, I just walk more than I run :-)

You really shouldn't be running if it's causing you so much pain you cry!
