Hi all,

Looking to invest in a HRM. There are many on the market, not sure which one would be best. Not looking for anything with all the bells and whistles. Just want a reliable one to track my Heart rate (obviously). Also one with GPS and ability to track runs, and cals burned, would be a good idea i suppose, but I use MapMyRun atm anyway, and its spot on. i have always heard ones with chest straps are more accurate aswell.

i dont wanna break my bank for a HRM in the end. But finding a quality HRM that does all I want it to, I wouldnt mind spending a bit more.

Any suggestions for one that fits my needs would be great, thanks all.

I would seriously recommend the Polar brand. Some models have bells and whistles, some don't. I have a Polar FT4, and it calculates my burn using height, weight, age and gender (which makes me feel it's more accurate). It also stores data from my last 10 workouts, making it easy for me to see progress.

I got mine from Amazon for around $65. Best investment in my fitness so far!

I have a Polar FT4 which is the pretty base level of the Polar ones. It has been very good, tracks HR & cals but it doesn't have GPS or a pedometer so it doesn't track distance. As far as Polar HRM's go, GPS is a bell/whistle that you pay more for. Some of the Polar ones include access to a web interface where you can upload and store your training data, but the FT4 isn't one of them.

I've been looking at upgrading to a HRM with GPS but I've started jogging with my phone and just using Runkeeper for the GPS/distance tracking.

I've read that you can upgrade your Polar transmitter to include bluetooth, which would then be able to pair with Runkeeper. But I couldn't find info on whether it works with the FT4.
