Mobile MFP App

I'm loving the MFP mobile app and use it all the time to log and update my info. I've also been using it to scan package bar codes on foods that I'm entering for the first time to determine if the item is already in the database so that I can avoid duplicationg the entry.

Sometimes I notice that the barcode is in fact active with the right food type but with a different manufacturer and what's more odd, is with different nutritional values and sometimes way different.

My question is:
what would seem to be more accurate,
the package information or the barcode information?

Has this happened to you too?

I've noticed this as well. Normally I just check that the general calories are the same and don't check the other fields but it is weird when it happens.

The package is always the most accurate. The database is created by users, so you could create something and put any value you want regardless of what's on the package.

I was under the impression that barcodes are assigned. The most recent incindent is a package of edamame with a store brand label that came up 'birdseye' with such different values, although not shattering...package vs barcode info that is.

I have noticed this on various items that I have scanned such as milk & cottage cheese!! Crazy is that it came up with the same brand on the milk. I do check to make sure the calories are the same as the package when I scan something. If they are not, I will click the "not right" at the bottom and then just manually search for the item. Wish there was a way to change the nutrition on the phone when you do a scan but I haven't figured it out on the iphone yet.

I ended up using the package info...although this house brand label I would question a little...no matter what, in this case it's a healthy food and it's all good.

I love MFP for making it so easy and so useful.

So...is there a way to add a barcode item? I've found some surprising things already entered in the database, but there's some things I've come across that I'd like to add, if possible.

That's a great question...I have added info manually from the nutrition list but I have never tried to add a barcode.
