the 1740 is calories you should eat in order to meet your weight reduction goal that you set in MFP. 2032 is what your body needs to maintain current weight if you keep your activity level at same level it is now. So, to lose weight, you eat less than that 2032 amount. AND/OR add more activity, meaning burn more calories. If you burn more calories, you can eat more than the 1740. But if you keep your current activity levels, you will (slowly) lose weight by eating 1700 calories or less a day.

actually, I should clarify a little. BMR is calories your body needs if you do nothing all day. TDEE is calories your body needs based on your activity level. If you have very active lifestyle (you're a mall security guard and walk 10 miles a day as part of your job), your TDEE would be higher than mine (spend most work time sitting on my butt) even if we had the same BMR.

If you aren't losing weight, first ask yourself, how long have you been doing this? Weight loss is slow. In women its slower than men. I lost about a pound a week for 6 months. Second, are you really being accurate with your calorie counts? I guestimate a lot of my calorie counts. I guestimate high, meaning, I think I have 4 ounces of chicken but since I'm not weighing it, I log it as 5 ounces. And on my exercise, I take whatever MFP gives me as calories burned and only post 3/4 of those calories.

This is my 3 week into really trying to get this weight off. I know this is a slow process and I do not expect tons of weight to come off all at once. I just thought a pound or two per week. I am working out at the gym 3 days a week and doing Wii Fit on the off days. I workout about 45 minutes at the gym and sometimes longer on the Wii. I am not working right now so I have lots of time to workout and learn to eat right. Thank you again.

I can't see your diary so I can make some general statements. Make sure you are eating enough protein. It helps with repairing muscles and keeps you full longer. My Dr. and nutritionist both recommend women to be at about 4 x 20 grams (so 80 grams a day). Then work the other two macros around that.

Also, resistance training (weights, strength training) are good for building muscle. Muscle burns more fat (its not a TON more calories but still ups them some).

Watch sodium. You may be losing more than you think but it isn't showing because of water weight. Keep within the AHA guidelines and drink plenty of water.

I switched my settings if you don't mind looking at my food diary and give me some feed back. It seems like you are the only I am talking to about this. Thank you!

I looked at the past few days and you seem to be doing great on your food choices. Better than me for sure. Maybe high on sodium based on the tuna, etc. but doesn't seem too bad. I'm always fairly high on sodium because I eat tuna a lot. I'd say to keep doing what you're doing. You really do have a great mix of fruits and veggies and protein.

Thank you. Yesterday was the first day for tuna. I never realized just how much sodium was in there. WOW! Anyway, I want to thank you for checking out my dairy and getting back with me. Have a great day!

sodium isn't that big a deal if you don't have medical issues like high blood pressure. Just make sure to drink lots of water. If you have high blood pressure or similar issues, then check with your doc about acceptable sodium. And a lot of people don't realize but that boneless breast of chicken they're buying at the grocery store is high sodium. Grocery chains soak chicken in salt brine to keep it fresh longer and you end up with higher sodium content. Some sell "organic" chicken which is not brine soaked.
