At a total loss....

Long story short....

My walllet was stolen in 2005.... I've been dealing with it ever since. I thought I had everything taken care of a while back.... I continue to check my credit report and when nothing new showed up within a 2 year period, I didn't find the info that I had relevant anymore and shredded all of it!

I also got divorced back in November. On Saturday, I finally changed my name back to my maiden name at the gym. Tonight the guy who works up front called me to tell me that my gym membership has been cancelled because I owe $1200 from a previous account that I opened back in 2005, but that I can settle for $404!

They called me back in 2007 about the money I owed them, I told them what happened and told them that I was living out of state at the time. The account was notated but nothing was done!

Obviously I am going to fight this! I'm not sure how, but I'm going to have to! In the meantime, I can't stop going to the gym! It's become a part of my day at this point! I really don't know what to do right now! I'm literally beside myself!

Any advice!

I should also mention that I can't do DVDs! I don't have the motivation to workout at home (and I don't want my house smelling like a gym!)

So,,,, someone took your identity and opened up a gym account? Thats a highly motivated thief. Lol

I would call the owner, explain what happened and tell them you would hate to have to find another gym, that you like theirs and want to keep going, but if they can't accomodate identity theft victims, then you will find someone who will .

The police report should be a matter of public record. Get a copy of the original report and see if you can get any relevant transcripts from your credit reports from the associated time period. You also need to have the owner of the gym provide PROOF (a SIGNED BY YOU) membership form from the time back then also. Explain that at that time, you were a victim of identity theft, and that the contract was fraudulent. Without a signed (by you) contract, they have NOTHING. Hope this helps.

Also, any records you may have, KEEP don't shred ... these things WILL come back to haunt you (as you have found out). Good luck and may God bless you.
