I've got to get into the swing of working out. Anyone have any idea's for working out with a 1 year old in the home? I need something that doesn't require me to purchase anything (as much as I'd love to do Zumba) and that can be done either with her (like walking) or while she's napping (so I would have to be within range of the baby monitor).. I need something that's stimulating, but isn't gonna kill me.. I do pilates right now, but it just isn't cutting it.. Only burned 50 calories doing it today...

I'm a big fan of Jillian Michael's DVD's, they run about $10 at Target or Walmart. Some of them do require small dumbbells but those aren't too expensive. I do these DVD's while my little one is napping. According to my HRM, I burn about 200 calories for 20-25 minutes. I usually do two of her workouts so I'm going for 50 minutes.

Check out youtube for exercise routines for inside the house. Even one of the 30 Day Shred levels is up for free. If you want to do other things that don't require videos try to add times that your child can participate, make it a game for them. Things like chasing games (things like lifting your child up as you would squat would be good for you and them), pretending to be something that requires exercises like high knees, or even just doing jumping jacks and dancing can be effective to start with. Carrying while walking and pushing a stroller is a good workout and gets you and your child outside. Jump rope is also something that's good exercise and they can get involved when they get older.
Get creative with weight ideas, canned foods and jugs of water can be challenging. Add certain exercises with cleaning, or just act silly and do lunges across the room while you are with your child.
Check with a rental place to see if there are free rental sections, Family Video has some but I don't know how far that franchise stretches. Good luck and have fun.0 -
