Walking 8 Miles After Metatarsal Osteotomy.....

That's what I'm planning on 15th June, but I need some advice.
I had a metatarsal osteotomy op on my right foot about 18 months ago.......basically, a bunion was removed, the big toe & 2nd toe were straightened and a permanent metal plate was put in the big toe restricting its movement. Consequently this has altered how I walk.....and am much slower than I was before (if that's possible!).
Signed up to do Hospice in the Weald Moonlight Walk in June.....my brother died at this hospice in 2004 so it's a cause close to our family's hearts and I don't want to let anybody down. Mum, my sisters & niece will all be walking too.......and they walk so much quicker than I can. 8 miles may not be a lot to some, but it will be the furthest I've walked for a long time. I have done this walk before....but not since my op.
So, peeps, my question is........what exercises can I do to help strengthen my legs so I can walk a bit faster without impacting too much on my toe? Bear in mind that I also have a weakness in my left leg......a consequence of a premature birth. I use a stick if I know I'm walking a long way, but this is mainly for stability. I do squats, weights and rowing on a regular basis at the gym.
Thanks guys & gals,
Sue xxx
PS: I posted a very similar topic to this earlier but it seems to have disappeared....apologies if it appears twice.....

You're not going to be letting anyone down by being slow. Go at a pace comfortable for you and be proud.
Otherwise, a physio is probably going to be able to tell you any specific exercise you can do for it..
Good luck!0
