as far as i know, the time that you do cardio doesn't matter.
so i'm going to say no, its not true.
  • I'm going with no also. Physiologically, let's say you run...your body is engaging in exactly the same motions to run, and will burn the same number of calories to complete those motions, regardless of the time of day you engage in those motion.

I Think what fitat41 was trying to find out.

    a) If you do 30 min cardio in the morning, you raise your metabolism and can be burning more calories during the day.

    b) You don't work out until the evening and do a 60 min workout.

    So answer would be B.
You still will raise the metabolism and burn calories after workout.
  • You would just get your metabolism revved up and it would be running fast for a longer period of time. I read soemwhere recently it only keeps you buring about 50 extra cals for the whole day. So its not a ton. Exercise whenever it works for you. You will get the great benefits no matter when you do it

I have heard this about morning workouts, however, I am not sure that there are any scientific facts to back it up. I do know that personally I am able to give more to my workouts in the morning. It's like giving the best of yourself to yourself before anybody else gets a piece of your energy. I see better results with a morning workout routine because I am more likely to stick with it than trying to get off work and go exercise.

if that were true, we wouldn't be on this site for so many months at a time! I'm going to go with... sounds too good to be true.

Um ... there's a little truth to the fact that doing cardio first thing in the morning has a bigger after-burn effect than any other time of the day ... but I don't think it's 20 minutes vs. 60 minutes.
