Calorie Counts

I'm going out for my boyfriend's bday tonight. It's at an amazing Creole/Cajun place. I've looked over the menu and decided on Shrimp and Grits and I know he'll want Fried Alligator for an app. Here are the menu descriptions....
Crispy Fried Alligator w/Spicy Aioli and Chives
Shrimp and Grits---Wild Caught Shrimp, Anson Mills Stone Ground Buttermilk Grits, Smoked Bacon, Trinity

I need help for creating this food in my diary and getting accurate calorie counts. To be completely honest, I've never made shrimp and grits ( just seen on Tv and Paula deen used a crap ton of butter) so I'm not sure of all that goes into it.

Help!

    Hello!

I have not been to that kind of restaurant before, but you need to ask the waitress if they have a dish that is baked and not fried. I don't think the grits are a good choice because it comes from corn and corn is high in carbs and sugar.

Order a salad with some kind of meat on the side and ask for the dressing on the side, so you can add a little and not a lot. Stay away from all corn & wheat breads if possible. Drink water with a splash of lemon and stay away from all sodas.

Better yet, if you do a lot of exercise, you will have more calories added to your daily food count and give you more option to chose from the menu.

Have a good dinner with your boyfriend.

Delete. I just did exercise at 10pm on a night (not my best time) and well... I'm too tired to read it properly. You already answered my question. Wish I could help!!

If that's what you want, then go for it!

Search in the database to see what options are available for shrimp and grits - you can also look at recipes online that have calorie counts. Get a decent estimate/average of what the calorie count is (assuming full fat ingredients). Enter the ingredients as a recipe or just find a close calorie count wise one in the database already.

For fried alligator, do the same.

Then keep breakfast and lunch light, but filling (lots of veggies). And have a great night!
  • Is this NOLA on the Square? Their shrimp and Anson Mills grits are 970 calories per serving, 70 g fat, 43 g carbs, 2,236 mg sodium, and 361 grams of cholesterol ... absolutely outrageous! I would go for the entree and have the baked fish personally.

I never did eat alligator, but my husband likes it. I cannot help you with that one.
