Exercise Calculator on MFP vs Actual Results

I noticed that MFP calculates what you should have burned when you enter activity (ie elliptical training, running/jogging/etc) /Some are spot on and others are way off- for example I used the stair - treadmill aka stepper and I burned approximately 250 calories in 30 minutes using the weightloss program. MFP Exercise calc had something like 30-40% more
Is it that Im NOT working hard enough? the machine I used did ask for age/weight. If it just runs a calorie count it makes me nervous b/c I know ppl of varying weights burn calories at different rates. Anyway I own a bodymedia fit armband and thinking I should start using that again to really calc just how many calories Im burning.

Try your armband and see. MFP underestimates for me compared to my Polar HRM. I believe it's because I'm not that fit cardiovascularly so I work harder than MFP assumes. MFP is pretty close to what my treadmill will say though.0
