Hi Jayne,
A cup is a volume measurement--8 fluid ounces or about 220 ml. Grams are a weight measurement, so a cup of one thing won't weigh the same as a cup of another. Since 1 ml of water weighs one gram, a cup of water would weigh 220 grams, but a cup of rice or honey or ground beef would weigh something completely different.0 -
This varies depending on the density of the food you are measuring. For example, 1 cup of pasta weighs less than one cup of sugar. You should always go by weight wherever possible (i.e. grams or oz.) instead of volume due to this density disparity. That said, in a pinch, go by a MEASURING cup, which is what nutritional guides reference, instead of a coffee/tea/other cup.
Here's a good link to help you approximate the measurements: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cup_(volume)

I take it that you're not from North America and you go by weight. Cups are volume and the devil's measure for solids - it's an evil plot to sneak in more calories.
Ignore entries with cups. Just look for entries with grams.0 -
Unless your Australian... a metric cup here is 250ml.0

I only use cups to measure liquids.0
