oh no! i just bought unsweetened soy milk because of its low sugar content... i've also got soy icecream and tofu in the house. i've heard about the estrogen issues, but i never thought soy would be considered junk :frown: oh well back to the search for low fat, low sugar icecream and milk that tastes decent

Soy contains large amounts of natural toxins or "anti-nutrients," chief among them potent enzyme inhibitors that block the action of enzymes needed for protein digestion. (Of course, these same protese inhibitors are believe by some to have a cancer-protective effect, hence part of the controversy.) Soybeans also contain baemagglutinin, a clot-prompting substance that causes red blood cells to clump together, and goitrogens--substances that suppress thyroid function.

My mom reacts to soy, and the reaction is digestion related. That enzyme must be the reason. She has to avoid a LOT of products out there.

My DH has Grave's disease and I just recently read that people on medications for thyroid issues shouldn't be eating much soy.

I thought I would bump this again since today's food is also from the soy section. That way while I type of the food of the day you can review the difference between healthy soy and not-worth-it soy. Enjoy!
