Brunettes! Hair color ideas/help!

I'm in a wedding in May and I'm going in a couple weeks to get my hair highlighted. I'm trying to decide exactly what to do to it. Having dark hair is somewhat limiting, but I just haven't found that look that makes me think "Yes, THAT'S what I want"

I'm hoping I can get some help from you ladies on different colors/looks. I have scoured the internet in search of pictures to take to my stylist. I'd love to see pictures of some other of you brunette ladies that may have had highlights done or maybe links to photos you've seen that you love. I'm afraid of going in there and coming out with platinum blonde streaks because I was too indecisive to give a good explanation of what I want. (previous disaster!)

I couldn't link straight to the pic, but if you scroll down that page, you'll see purple hair. I'm not sure if you were looking for anything so drastic, but I looooooove it!

If you're dark already, have you ever thought about doing an ombré or color melt? Ombred hair is a little more subtle, more like gradient color, while color melts are very deep at the root and blonde on the ends. It would be easy for your stylist to ombré your hair if you're already dark. There's tons of options :)

For wedding hair - id suggest caramel highlights. Does it have to be highlights? a new all over color would be fun too.

I really like the overall darkness of my hair, I'm unsure about a new allover color. Gaah I don't know! I'm so weird when it comes to changing my hair.

I don't know why I didn't think of searching pinterest before..

...but I am searching highlights and a picture of a grilled mac-n-cheese sandwich just came up...?

    ..now I want mac-n-cheese.

I don't know if my first link worked so here's another for the ombré!

That's pretty! I feel like my hair isn't long enough or textured enough. My hair is stick straight and just past my shoulders. I'm afraid on my hair ombre would look like an accident and not an intentional thing lol

I definitely understand your concerns! You can really do ombré at any length as long as you trust your stylist's eye. I've done ombres where I pull the root color down only a few inches and just make sure the coloring around their face is flattering to their face shape. Barrel curls or flat iron curls will give you plenty of texture to pull it off.

If you're thinking that the ombré might not be right for your lifestyle, maybe highlights are best. Maybe even just a partial highlight so you retain a lot of your dark hair that you're already liking!

With dark brown hair you can always go a couple shades lighter and to the "golden" or "auburn" shades without it looking chunky. It just gives it a bounce of color without a dramatic jump. My hair is a very dark mousy brown and I kick it up with some brown/bronze-ish highlights.

I would go with some well blended caramel highlights all throughout, it looks great with straight hair
