Healthy lunch?

I am still in high school, and I am considering not eating the school lunches anymore. They are packed with fat, calories, and sodium. I always eat a decent breakfast, so I was considering bringing vegetables everyday. I've read that broccoli and cauliflower are especially good for people who are trying to build muscle. Since I love both of them I was thinking of bringing them everyday for lunch as a snack to hold me off until dinner. However, if I eat them I will have to eat them with ranch. As long as I use the appropriate serving of ranch will it be okay? I know it will be tons better than the school food, but I don't want to trade one bad habit for another.
Are there any other things you guys can recommend for me to take? Any help would be appreciated. I'm new to eating healthy, and I'm having a hard time.

Are you saying you want to sub a school lunch with some broccoli and cauliflower for the entire school day?
My dear, that is not enough. Especially if you are looking to build muscle. You need lean protein - it WILL help fill you up and keep you satisfied until dinner. Try the broccoli and/or cauliflower with 4-6oz of lean proteins (chicken, fish, tuna...) for lunch.
Also, my new go-to snack at the office is turkey jerky. Super high in protein, low in cals. Keeps me full in between meals plus it takes a lot of effort / longer to chew0
