push ups/sit ups before bed

anybody else do them? i only do cardio, and feel this might be a decent way to tone my core a little bit. its nothing too intense, just quick 5 minute session before bed. i have heard (from a friend, not a solid source) that 10 pushups before bed every nigth can yield a 5 pound loss over the course of a year. dont know if its valid or not, but does anyone else do this before bed or feel there is any value in it?
