How does mfp handle nutrition goals?

I'm a little confused. When I look at my food diary, for example, my protein goal is 55 grams. When I look at my settings goals, mfp automatically set the goal to 50 grams of protein a day. Shouldn't those two figures be the same? Similarly, the other major nutritional areas (carbs, fat) are not the same.

I might be reading it wrong, but I think you're referring to the macronutrient ratios? In the settings the 50 isn't 50g but probably 50%?
For example, a traditional setting for macros would be something like 40%/30%/30% carbs/proteins/fats.
Also another thing I can think of is a bump in macronutrients after logging an exercise?0 -
It turns out that there is a FAQ that addresses the issue. Grams is the correct measure for both settings I was looking at but it is a moving target that is automatically updated by mfp based on your calorie expenditure level. For example, if the goal is 50g and you exercise, then your calorie allowance is raised automagically to compensate for the additional calorie burn. So naturally, the goal changes to accommodate the additional calories you can eat that day. Makes sense now.0
