for help with form at the gym, how would you feel about it? 99% of the people at the gym have headphones in and are in a zone. I hate to ask for form help in the free weights section with all of the big hot guys but I need help with squat form. I have looked online, read articles and watched youtube videos but none help as much as a regular lifter who can watch and correct my form (no $$ for personal training). I don't want them to think I am hitting on them or don't want them to get annoyed with me.

Discuss? How would you feel guys?

For the most part you need to do exactly what you are saying.
Scope the place out, dont look for the guy that is in the middle of lifting, try and find someone that is just starting to walk over to the weights or away from them.

Im always willing to help, spot etc. In fact I often want to help people that just have terrible form, but I dont want to butt in on anyone's business.

So long as they are not in mid lift/set most guys are going to be happy to help. Try to look for the most unassuming guy because you want to stay away from the egomaniacs.

well may not be the person you want to reply but nobody else is sooo MY opinion is if they dont have head phones on and are around you just ask it can't hurt. doubt they would get that pissy, mostly people act all big and bad on the internet not in real life. just ask to watch you do one and tell you if you did it right or not... not to give you a huge lesson or train you lol

you should look into proper form for exercises you question as well. review them and review them often. i do that and it helps -- practice what you would do with weights w/o weights in front of a mirror as well. it will show you your form and if you are sticking this out or should tuck that under. I exercise at home in front of a mirror and its TONS of help.

Your best bet might be to wait til you see someone on the piece of equiptment you'd like to use, then ask them. They could demonstrate and after their set is over, perhaps take a minute to show you.

I can't imagine anyone not taking the minute or two to help someone out. I think the key here is find someone closeby, or doing the same exercise, thus not really taking them away from their workout.

Simply explain that you're unfamiliar and not confident with it and could use some pointers.

a lot of gyms have someone you can ask for free. Just ask at the desk/welcome area!

I would not see any problem with you asking so long as the person is not in the middle of their workout. And if you are just looking for help with your form on squats I am sure any instructors from the gym would give you some pointers for free....

Would be happy to help anyone who asked. Guys ask other guys for help or a spot all the time. Girls are not any different.
