Hey all,
I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's 10 years ago and take 125 mcg of Levothyroxine everyday (on an empty stomach, alone, yada yada yada). I have been consuming 1200 to 1800 calories a day for the past 190 days. I workout (all types Jillian Michaels videos, pilates, elliptical, running/walking intervals, stregnth training, bike riding with the kids in the trailer, etc.) 5-6 days a week for 20-90 minutes a day. I get good sleep, drink tons of water, no soda, limited process foods, eat organic, splurge once a week or less on pizza.....During this time I have only lost 16 pounds. I am very frustrated and starting to wonder if there is more to my slow progress, like Estrogen dominance or other thyroid issues.....I saw my pcp a couple months ago and she said my thyroid will make it harder but I am making good progress. I feel like I am killing myself for nothing. I haven't changed clothing sizes or lost a ton of inches either. I have an appointment to see my pcp on Tuesday and was going to ask for a referral to an endo and for further testing. Any advice on what testing to ask for or personal triumph stories? Thanks in advance
Oh! and I have read Jillian Michael's Master Your Metabolism

Am feeling your pain
Really dont have anything productive to say or advise you on QB. I hope your pcp can shed some light on this, & help move you forward.
Am lucky to have you as a friend on here & just wish I could do more than just offer sympathy.

Honestly, I hear your frustration but I don't think 16 pounds in a little over 6 months is so bad. I'd take it! I'd definitly get the endo issue checked out but I think your doing well on the weight loss.0

I take levoxo also I had graves disease and I gained all my weight once my throid was removed. I have had really good success on mfd I have lost 19 lbs in a little over a month. I do go back and forth on my levoxo dosages and i do see a specialist an endo. i think that is the way to go you can share your concerns and since it is their specialty maybe they can help you more than a pcp. Maybe you do not have enough levoxo and it is causing you to have a slow metabolism. Don't be frustrated you are doing great any loss is good.0

I'm just plain hypo, and thyroid issues do cause slower weight loss. Even treated issues. Most people with low thyroid issues have found a lower carb diet (less starches like white potatoes, bread, many grains, etc.) works better. But even still, you are going to have to work your butt off for every pound you lose. It's not fair, but that's life, right?
I've been fighting my weight since before being diagnosed hypo. I lose weight best when I exercise in the morning (after taking the thyroid meds but before breakfast) and at night. And it's pretty intense both times to really lose. And even with that, I'm stuck at 15 lbs lost since Dec. 30. Bleh.
You are so not alone! There's a great hypo/hyper group here, they've been quite helpful to me!

I have Hashimoto's as well and take the same med as you do. And I have the same problem that you have! Losing is VERY slow and I blame it partially on my thyroid...but only a little bit.0

First of all, GREAT JOB! Hashimotos is a really difficult condition to manage - I had it and ended up having my thyroid removed. I would definitely see an Endo to manage your thyroid problem. I wouldn't even wait until your next appointment, call your doc and ask for a referral. Sometimes there can be long waiting lists.
Don't stop doing what you are doing - obviously it is working. Maybe an endo can find a different dose/med that is better suited for you. I always recommend seeing an Endo until you are at the maintenance phase of managing a thyroid condition. A lot of PCP's aren't schooled enough to manage new diagnoses of thyroid conditions.0 -
Thank you everyone!0
