Difficulty estimating restaurant calories

Hi everyone,

I tend to eat out a couple of nights a week at restaurants (i.e., not at chain or fast-food stores that publish nutritional information). While I do try and aim for what I consider to be the healthiest options, once I get home and log my food, I am always dismayed to find out that I (think) I have overeaten. Although it is hard to know, because you never know how food is prepared. Does anyone have any ideas/techniques that they use to track food eaten out?

I should also mention that I am not overweight; for the most part I am trying to keep to my current weight, so not eating out is not a viable option, since this is a long-term (life!) habit I am trying to get into.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Most restaurants put their menu's online or have a Takeout Menu. Take a look at it in advance and try to figure out what your eating before you go there. I normally over estimate to be safe.
