No exercise for 7 days

For the last 3 months I have been going to the gym at least 4 to 5 times a week, I have kept within my calorie allowance range fairly well (a few slip ups here and there) and I have not lost anything. In fact I have gained weight and inches. I am at a total loss and truly do not know what to do.

I am sticking to healthy diet given to me by my PT e.g. sweet potato (200gm) whole-wheat pasta or rice (75gm) alongside plenty of water etc.

Anyway while discussing this with a colleague at work he suggested that i should stop exercising for a 7 days and just track my calories as exercise may be the stumbling block?

I’m so confused and the idea od not going to the gym scares the hell out of me.

Any advice peps?

There are a lot of factors. Not going to the gym for a week wont hurt you. You'll probably lose weight, but as i understand it, your muscles retain water while in repair mode.

What sort of caloric intake do you have?

Taking a break from your routine is. Great idea. It throws your body into confusion. This is great to do sometimes.

My calorie intake is set for 1300..... I guess i am worried that i could gain in the 7 days because if i can bust my gut and still gain what happens when i sit still .

i did the same thing started going to the gym 3-4 times a wk for 2hrs a time and cycling every where along with controlling my calories and i also put weight on, it confused me so much, i thought i was doing a good thing i did feel better in my self but the weight gain was upsetting me so i stopped going to the gym and i fell apart and i put even more weight on and ate rubbish again. i'm just starting all over again now cos the difference was yes i put weight on and inches on but i was toned now im flabby again. so my advise is to stick with it.

I lose weight every week even when I don't go to the gym. In fact, I've lost nearly 30 pounds in 3 1/2 months by focusing on caloric intake. I do try to exercise 2-3 times a week but I don't always get there due to a family member being terminally ill, so my time isn't always free to exercise.

I highly doubt you'll gain from taking a week off from exercising unless you are eating excessively. Hang in there.

are you eating enough, not just the 1300calories, you need more than that if you're doing a large amount of exercise. drink plenty of water, and rest is essential.

    weight loss=calorie deficit

    being fit=exercise

you don't NEED exercise(or a lot of it) to lose weight.

I'm more than likely wrong but if you are doing weight lifting and things like that you could just very well be gaining muscle mass which weighs more that fat and can in fact add inches to your body.
