Strength Training - where to start?

I have read many things that swear by strength training not only for improving strength but also for burning fat.. I would love to get into it but I have no idea where or how to start off...Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

    I just started doing Jamie Eason's LIVE Fit 12 week plan. In this plan, she gives you a daily work out, and a suggested meal guide. Its true, the more muscle you have, the more fat you will burn. You can find her program at Body Building.com. there is more than one plan you can choose from.     Try reading the book, New Rules of Lifting for Women, I think that would be a good start for you

    i would recommend doing bodyweight exercises to start with unless you are already quite fit,press ups,burpees etc
