Exercise helps overall health and has nothing to do with eating. I'm surprised how many people don't understand the basic premise surrounding exercise.0

And so that when you get to your goal weight, you can take off your clothes and still look fantastic.0 -
Depends on the type of exercise your doing! I workout to tone up and keep my fitness levels up. I don't want to loose weight but have wobbly bits! You eat your calories back to replace the energy used while working out.0

Strong bones, larger muscles (which burn more calories than fat), decreased risk of Alzheimer's, heart health ...
I could go on.
Also, there is debate about eating back the calories. I say if you can eat them and still lose weight and you're hungry for them, then eat them. But some people can't lose if they eat them back.0 -
I want to be healthy and active. I want to be healthy when I get older. And, finally, because I know exercise will help me be able to keep the weight off.0

Exercise is important for building muscles/increasing cardiovascular health. It's not the primary way we lose weight (changing our diet is).
Don't think of it as "eating back" calories. I really hate that term because it's misleading, it sounds like you're moving backwards. You need fuel in the form of food in order to exercise. When you expend more energy, your body NEEDS more calories to keep up. It also becomes more efficient at burning calories. Can you lose weight by eating less and being completely sedentary? Sure. But if you choose that road, since you are expending very little energy during the day, you will have to cut your calories back by a large amount. Exercising allows you to eat like a human being and not starve yourself for weight loss because the calories you consume are actually being used for activity that makes your body stronger and more efficient.0 -
I do cardio for my heart health, weights for my muscle health and zumba and kickboxing for my spirit It's part of having an active lifestyle. When I'm hungrier on those days (because sometimes I've burned 600+ calories) I eat more because I'm hungry!0

So you can enjoy more food?
If your settings tell you to eat 1200 calories to lose weight, you're going to have to eat some fairly small portions. And forget about having that slice of cheese cake... that could be nearly half your daily calories right there. However, if you exercise a fair amount, you can then afford to eat the occasional piece of cake or whatever.
Plus, of course, the general health benefits of exercise.0 -
i do understand that exercise is good but im a disabled old lady, i have had complete knee replacements and cannot do much exercise, this does not help infact it makes loosing weight much harder but im still in there.0

I exercise so that everyone else may avoid death from my anger!
There is truth to this though, I have a tough job and I do it to keep stress levels down. Also, as other people have said, to avoid my family history of heart conditions, diabetes, bone density issues, and cancer. Oh, and low self esteem...defnately helps with that as well!0 -
Because its good for you, mind body and spirit. Your body was meant to move!0
