Insanity input!!

I am getting ready to start the Insanity workout and I am looking for some input overall. I figure just like any workout plan, I will do my best to keep up and not beat myself up if I cannot keep up with the people on the video as long as I push, keep going, and give it all I have because eventually, I will keep up. The meal plan seems like a lot of food in a day , I know you need to fuel if your burning a lot of calories. It's not really even the calorie amount, but the amount of food you consume to reach the calorie count. So, would protein shakes be a good part of this program?? Just want to start this program on the right track so any and all input or advice is appreciated!! Thanks :)
