So I'm a new, stay at home mom so I really can't get out to the gym. I just started p90x at 221lbs and have gained 2 lbs since Sunday. I've been eating 1250 calories suggested by MFP since I'm pretty sedetary when not working out, and I've been eating healthier foods. I'm also breastfeeding. Up until now, weight was melting off pretty much, and I wasn't exercising at all just eating right. Anyways, I realize I can gain weight from building muscle, but I googled this weight gain thing from p90x and found this girls blog about how p90x was not for weight loss but more about fine tuning.. That you should be close to your goal before starting or you will bulk up and still be flabby. Anyways kind of wanting to get some opinions? If anyone wants to share their starting weight or experiences with p90x, that would be awesome. Thanks

It's probably water weight.
If your body can handle it, there is no harm in doing p90x. You don't have to be close to your goal weight before starting it. I would however re-visit your calorie intake, especially if you're BF-ing. Make sure that you factor in BF-ing and your exercise calories.0 -
Wow, you really need to eat more! And definitely eat back your exercise calories. Have you read the nutrition guide that comes with it? I really think you'll be fine doing this at your weight but I'm not an expert. Just listen to your body.0

If you're gonna do P90X you're definitely going to need to eat more. You're going to wear yourself out because those workouts aren't easy and your body needs the fuel to keep going.0

I read the guide, but it seemed like a lot of calories, and since I had been okay with energy on what I had been eating I kept my calorie intake the same as what MFP suggested. I thought activity level was excluding exercise. I definitely do not want to mess with my metabolism. Obviously right now I can't do every exercise that they are doing, but I do what I can. I'm not sure how many calories to eat/ how much I'm burning. This is the first time I've really dieted. I want to do it right, I guess I still have lots to learn.0

If you have looked at any P90X success stories there are quite a few of people who had amazing weight loss results from doing the program... Anything that builds muscle is great for fat loss which of course = weight loss Make sure you are drinking enough water, that's the biggest thing when people start a new workout program, you need to drink even more water when you are exercising hard because your muscles retain fluid to repair from the workouts... so if you don't drink A LOT of water than you will gain weight from the fluid retention... I do think you should be eating a bit more during the days too, especially if you are breastfeeding... I've seen people on here enter breastfeeding into their diaries and it's like -500 calories or something meaning you should be eating at least 500 extra calories a day if you are breastfeeding... P90X is definitely a great tool for weight loss, Good luck!0
