what am I doing wrong?

Ok I need some help! I've been following this plan for the last 2 weeks. I have been really really good at adding all my foods in ( may have missed a boiled sweet in the last day!). I have 1470 cals per day, I walk the dog twice a day, have always come in at below each days cal amount:

I have looked at my weekly progress for foods consumed, and I get as a basis, 70% of my food intake is carbohydrate, 15% fat, 15% protein.....but I have not lost anything at all! I actually gained in the first week, only 1 1/2 pounds ( I have a higher cal count to start with 1600) : any ideas at where I am going wrong?

I need to loose about 10Kg because of medical concerns, but am getting a bit worried something is not quiet right here...help!!!

    I am by no means a expert, but in order for me to lose weight, I need to choose an exercise that will raise my heart rate (and keep it up). Recently a personal trainer told me for moderate weight loss your heart rate should be elevated (in a healthy range of course) for at least 30 minutes. I'm 46 - eating healthy is not keeping the pounds off. Good Luck!

    It looks as though you are eating too many carbs without additional exercise. If you have always walked the dog 2x per day, now it's time to jog or powerwalk the dog! Or cut back on the carbs, I too am always below my calories...

    Try to up your protein and fat and cut carbs. Also, if this is medically necessary did you go to an MD for blood work? If not, you should. Eating under your daily expenditure and not losing is a sign of metabolic syndrome (insulin resistance). An MD can diagnose and put you on some meds that will help regulate your blood sugar.

    I tried many diets over the years and this is the first time I have ever lost over 30 lbs. I have been on a Dr. recommend diet that includes meds for insulin resistance for almost 6 months (next week will be 6) and I have lost a little over 80 lbs with his help and guidance.

    Try a 50% carb, 30% protein 20% fat ratio :)

    thanks for all the tips: problem is with upping protein is that I'm basically veggie and eat very little in the way of protein...this is the first time I've tried to calorie count and its just not working..am trying weight watchers at the moment, as I've lost weight on that before. Also, can't jog with the dog as she just doesn't walk fast as she's an old girl

    I have done 17 days now and moving into cycle 2 today with adding good slow digesting carbs every other day. Lost 7 pounds in a couple weeks. Slow, but I feel tons better! No foggy days, or pms this month!!! All because I cut sugar (98%), wine (99%) and breads (100%).

    Its given me more energy to run farther and faster too which I know will help me drop what I need to.....aiming for another 10 by June.

    Anyway, hope that helps a little,

    What are your goals set to lose on MFP? Do you eat back exercise cals?

    Another vote for reducing carbs / increasing protein. Mine are 40c/30f/30p.
    there are lots of vegetarian protein sources - Tofu, beans, nuts, fat free greek yogurt, cheese, eggs, protein shakes etc.
    Ive recently increased my protein and don't want to eat meat 24/7 so ive had to find other sources too. Protein shakes give you around 30g for 200 cals when made with milk, and theyre pretty filling too so make a good snack.

    If you are walking the dog and the dog is old, sounds like you have been doing that as part of your daily routine for a long time, so that will not be enough exercise wise.
    If you are 3-400lbs with a lot to lose then maybe walking is enough, but with only 20-odd pounds to lose you need to be doing something more intense that gets your heart rate up for at least 30 mins at a time, at least 4x per week.

    Can you walk/jog without her? I agree that some cardio (elevated heart rate) is essential.

    I'm sure I am gonna be redundant, but here goes......
    This is what helped me, EAT MORE PROTEIN!! At least 30%.
    Also, don't limit your calories to like 1200 or so. I eat about 1900 throughout the day at anywhere from 200-500 at a time (300 is better) and get moving!!! Also, eat veggies and fruits. Do it!
    This is learned through trial, error, and the advice of my friends. It seems to be working!

    Don't be discouraged... I have to tell myself that almost every day! I'm right there with you following the plan and doing what I'm suppose to and yes although exercises might help you can't fall into the trap some people do. Don't over exercise in the 3 or 4 digits hoping to loose weight but not eating it back cause at first you might loose some but in the end you will just end up hurting yourself. I have a lot more to loose then you and ok at first I lost a couple pounds but a few weeks into this I stopped and staid were I was for a really long time well I thought it was a long time anyways but eventually I started loosing again. Right now I'm at a point where I'm not loosing again and it's well a little depressing yes but just keep telling yourself you ARE doing everything right. Eating what you are eating is what you need to loose the weight. Sure adjusting one side or the other might help you loose faster or something but I found eating what you normally eat is the best way to not fail. The sight isn't going to fail you is you do what is says too. I know 1400 might seem like a lot but that's what the questions were for at the beginning and 1400 is were you should be to loose the weight you want to and be the size you are hoping.     If your veg some good protein sources are greek yogurt, nuts, chia seeds, some cereals have protein (kashi I think), or add a protein shake. Honestly, walking the dog isn't going to do it, unless its several miles a day. Maybe you could walk the dog as your warm up then go for a longer walk and even work up to jogging. The carbs you do it should be from whole grains, fruit and veggies, no processed white flours and sugar, as much as possible. Same with fats, get them from good sources. Weight Watchers helps with some of this, but it also allows you to think your foods are higher quality just because they fit in your points (at the same time, you could think anything is good on MFP as long as you are within your calories). That is true to a degree, a candy bar isn't going to derail you completely, but if the majority of foods are highly processed, high sodium, sugar, etc it's not going to make weight loss any easier. You can do this! You really can.

    I agree with StephenRR and I think you should drop your calories to 1200. There is no way that I could lose weight eating 1600 calories unless I was an exercise machine. Perhaps that is something to try.
