alcohol

Hey, I know alcohol is pretty much a dieting no-no, but my husband & I are going out tonight with old friends and I know drinking will be involved. What can I drink that will be low calorie other than light beer?

  • Hard liquor mixed with diet soda. Or straight or on the rocks.

Wine or light beers are my drinks of choice when going out.

I usually drink flavored bacardi with club soda, or rum with diet coke.
Sangria is also a decent option calorie-wise.

    nice article, thanks! i try to implement a general rule of taking it easy on mixers with tons of sugar, and beer is a rotten bloater, though i still like to enjoy a good one. anything super sweet is probably not good for you, since the alcohols will be turning into sugars already, from what i understand. plus, booze hurts hydration, which gets you pounded and slows down your goals (look through my diaries and you'll see i speak very much from experience!). so if you keep a rule of a water per drink, you can party longer & keep your bod happy (-;
  • Alcohol are empty calories. There is no utilization of energy and they encourage fat storage. That being said, enjoy the evening out, be conservative with your drinking...drive safely and get back in gear tomorrow. It sounds like this is a treat and not a routine....ENJOY LIFE. But know its like eating cake...enjoy a little and work hard tomorrow.

    Gin & Diet Tonic!

The bitterness of the tonic water might mean you'll drink more slowly. And the calorie to alcohol ratio is very good. Dry red wine also has a good calorie/alcohol ratio and is meant to be healthy in moderation thanks to resveratrol. Both spirits and red wine beat light beer because they've got less carbs.

Most importantly, enjoy the night, do a little dancing if at all possible and don't worry!

I love my beer and vodka and OJ or Malibu and pinaple. I just make sure during the week I leave eaxtra so I can drink and if I go over I just work out extra the next week.
Ive heard skinny girl coctails are good but never tried them personally.

ROFLMAO. Alcohol is a no-no? Then why do I continue to lose weight though I drink at least a bottle of wine a week (usually in one night), and a few straight-ups?
  • flavored vodka with seltzer water with a cherry or lime/lemon wedge.
jack daniels or jack daniels honey and diet coke.

If alcohol were a no-no with dieting, I would have stopped losing weight a loooooong time ago.

Jack and I, we have a special relationship that I just can't see ending anytime soon.

I second the suggestions for hard liquor and diet soda, though. I usually do Jack and coke myself.

Drink whatever, just put it into your plan.

If you are a beer drinker, you can figure out the calories in a beer by determining how much of a known quantity it represents. Use this formula

    ((vol in oz X ABV) / 60) X 150

The best part of losing all this weight is that I am now a cheap cheap drunk.

also a flavored vodka&club soda, gin&tonic with lime...I get yelled at for this, but coke zero&rum (or vodka).
If you drink beer, try a stout instead of light beer, it's heavier so it will take longer to drink. It also tastes better in my opinion.

I go out for drinks 1-2x per week. If my goal is to get tipsy/drink all night...I drink light beer to avoid racking up a ton of calories. If my goal is to beer taste/really enjoy a few drinks...I drink some really good higher calorie beers.

I don't really drink liquor too much since I love beer but when I do...any flavoried vodka with diet coke OR tonic water.

Good luck, enjoy, be smart and most of all, don't stress!

If I know I'm going out with friends I always stick to a glass or two of merlot. A glass of red wine a day is beneficial to your health (according to some studies). I drink a glass or two a few nights a week and it never messes up my diet/weightloss goals. I always make sure to watch what I eat throughout the day and get in a good workout!
