    I have some doubts about whether the secretions (castoreum) are actually used in food products, but they are used in many perfumes.

    Google it. I just did. It's an approved food additive.

    I've known about this and that the beetle shell stuff for dye for a while. I'll take my chances. I still think the pink slime is more disgusting. That I will not eat.

    I hope no beavers were injured during the expressing of glands....

    They have to be consenting adult beavers and sign a waiver.

    It also helps if the beaver relaxes.

    Approved doesn't necessary mean used extensively. It may be safe, but I doubt it's cheap. Then there's an abundance of other sources, like actual raspberries and vanilla.

    You should lobby congress to add the words: "Product May Contain Beaver Butt" or "Product made in factory near Beaver Butt" to any and all applicable labels, like they did with wheat and diary products.

    Anal secretions could be the least of your worries when it comes to "natural" flavorings. Natural or artificial, the added flavorings are still chemicals. It's best to avoid additives if you can. Easier said than done though as I am discovering.
