Do you take measurements?

So I do an "official" weigh in once a week. And although it's nice to see the number on the scale go down, I'd like to really track my progress. Do you guys take measurements at all so you can see if you lose inches? I never know exactly where on my stomach to measure, or at what part of my thigh ect. If I don't put the measuring tape in the same exact spot each week, I know it won't be accurate. Suggestions? Or how often to measure?

I do measurements once a month. I've found it to be really helpful, especially since I'm nearing the end of fat loss, so my weight fluctuates a lot with muscle gain and what have you. The scale may mislead me, but the tape measure is reliable.
A google search will tell you how to do proper measurements, but really, as long as you're going it around the same spot, you'll get good results. Good rules of thumb are smallest part of your waist, widest part of your hips, thigh, arm, etc. Bust you do right over the nipple line.0 -
I check my weight once a week...and if there is not a change I measure so I don't get discouraged.
Good luck : )0 -
I take measurements the way I was taught when I learned to sew.
I measure around my belly button for my waist (that also happens to typically be the smallest part of the waist so it's a more pleasant number).
And I always measure hips and bust because I like to stay on top of those measurements. I figure once I start more seriously taking on lunges and push-ups and stop being all about the cardio (which I won't until I finish my first race), than I'll start measuring my arms and thighs and whatnot.0 -
I weigh in once a month and measure once a month. Smallest part of the waist/natural waist, and then largest part of hips, thighs, and arms. I find that measurements tell me so much more than weight does at this point. :happy:0

Chest: Measure around the largest part of your chest.
Biceps: Measure midway between the top of your shoulder and elbow.
Waist: Measure at the narrowest point, approximately one inch above your belly button.
Hips: Measure your hips around the largest part of your buttocks with your heels together.
Thigh: Thighs are measured separately. Stand with your legs slightly apart. Measure your upper leg where the circumference is largest.
Ideally once a week, at the same time of the day. *in the morning though*0 -
I usually only use my measuring tape now. I am maintaining my weight, but my measurements have increased in my thighs (and biceps, calves....), So, I guess it is from muscle gain...they were decreasing when I was focusing on just weight loss, but now that I am focusing on "toning," I am relying mainly on my measuring tape. The scale actually make me more obsessive when it comes to my weight. I try to only measure monthly also!0

I take measurements, pics and weigh myself.
I've lost inches w/o losing lbs and it's SOOO noticeable with pics and measurements...def motivating too!

I also do a high waist (the smallest part of my tummy) my belly button line AND my pant line
so I do 3 on my tummy!! kinda crazy but they do change!! llol0 -
Also take a topless pic.
The last diet I did, my measurement did not change but my jeans got longer so I know I l did lose fat.0 -
I'm really bummed. I started taking measurements as I started the 30DS, but they're WRONG!! my clothes have gotten bigger and the scale is moving downwards, but my measurements don't make any sense! some are bigger, some got smaller but then bigger again, there's no rhyme or reason to it all, and I feel like I've let myself down.
I'd like to be not the only one with this silly problem.0 -
I had the same problem when I first started out, This site helped me a lot, it has pictures and even a video, so it makes the process very easy to understand.

Thats happened to me too, dont worry! My mesurements didn't move 4 months ago when I had my appraisal yet my clothes got looser and people kept commenting on how much weight I had lost. Just keep focussing on the downward trend. Measurements will go down evenutally. It just takes time! In the meantime listen to peoples comments and focus on how your clothes are feeling!0 -

I don't weigh, but I measure. Otherwise I would've thought I'm making no progress. I measure my bust, band, waist, bellybutton, over the hip bones, thighs, upper arm, forearm, wrist, calves and ankle. As long as they're more or less in the same spot, you're good.0
