Because A Southern Girl Can't Live Without Chicken Gizzards

I miss fried chicken gizzards, but because of my new lifestyle I've only eaten them once in the past year.

There IS a way to eat gizzards, though-- and the calories are very reasonable.

I simmer them in water with garlic and pepper. Sometimes I also add a little Liquid Smoke.

Once they're tender, I grill them on a smoky gas grill by putting soaked wood chips in the fire.

To keep things from sticking I lightly spray them with olive oil cooking spray, as needed, while they cook. Sometimes I'll also baste them with fat free Zesty Italian salad dressing.

The finished gizzards have virtually the same number of calories as when you bought them at the store-- and they taste like a million bucks!

That's the way I was the first time I was ever offered them.

Once you try fried gizzards, though, you're ruined for life. It's instant love...!

Oct., Turkey Testicle Festival in Byron, Ill. The slogan of the longtime festival in this town on the Rock River near Rockford is "come have a ball." Seems turkeys are castrated in early fall so they'll be big and juicy for Thanksgiving . . . these early leftovers are deep-fried, and proceeds go to charity.

    Try This

I have so many things to say to this-- but they'd all get me kicked off MFP...!

No it's not, it's fried. I don't do fried. And I certainly don't do chicken gizzards.
