Does listed as Sedentry as my daily life mean...

That I log literally everything I do?

The majority of my work day is spent at a desk, but some days I'm walking around quite a lot. Only reason I noticed this is by having a gps pedometer has made me realise I've walked 5ks at work today, which would take another 200cals out of my diet.

I go to the gym 5 days a week as well, and always log that but never think to log anything else like mowing the lawn and gardening and whatnot.

So should I begin to log literally everything I do? Thinking about getting a HRM to see exactly what I burn during the day.

Set your activity level for what your normal daily activity. I see people log normal daily activity and it seems like it overestimates calories burned and it also seems rather tedious.

HRM are meant for exercise and not to log daily activity. You might want to look into the body bugg or something like that? Not sure what it is called.

The easiest thing to do is set your activity level correctly and only log what you do that is above and beyond your normal activity.
  • If you've only walked 5k steps a day as recorded by your pedometer, then that's just a little bit above a sedentary lifestyle. On average, a sedentary person would walk between 3.5k to 4k steps in their day, which is not a lot. So if you've only walked 5k and then log that as a 200 calories loss, you would be overestimating your exercise calories.

    Hope that helps :)

That's the thing, some days I literally sit at a desk all day. Some days I walk around the majority of the day.

Most weekends, I'm moving a lot as well, can't really set every day to be the same unfortunately when they're not the same.

    Hi

So I would not Log everything you do if it is part of your daily life because then you may eat those Calories. I do log big projects Like I am clearing trees out in the back yard hauling them cutting them then raking the area, not part of my everyday life, but when i am just weeding the flower beds I do not log that because I do that more regularly. I mean you can log it but I may not eat the calories. Hope this helped.

i don't log cleaning etc...i only log activity where i know i am burning alot, its hard work that i normally don't do on a weekly basis. i keep mine sedentary too b/c i too am on my but in front of this thing for quite a few hrs a day. there is more time where i am sitting then actually moving... I will log weeding the garden / flower beds if i am doing it for more then 1 hr. if 1 hr or less i don't....

Maybe change your activity level to lightly active. Those days when when you sit all day, eat less calories. Make sure, though, that you're eating at least your BMR.

I have a very active job (I work on a farm), however because my days can vary so much I have mine set as sedentary and use a heart rate monitor to track my activity. If I sit down or have a period of low activity I will pause my HRM so that anything burned then is not counted. I can log between 15000 and 20000 steps a day easily so that's why I log mine. Just my personal experience, don't know if that will really help you out.
