You can't bring me down.

So I get up stupid early, because I'm getting old and that's apparently what old people do. It's Saturday, my official weigh in day, and I usually get up, go on a walk, get on the scale, and go on with my weekend.
So I fumble out of bed see it's not even light out yet, check the weather, check to see what time the sun rises, get on the scale before my walk and realize I gained two pounds from yesterday. I am immediately depressed, and blame the rum from last night. I then get on MFP to see how my buddies are doing and the top of the forums is a topic by an ex anorexic girl asking me and others to explain why we are fat.
I had tons of sarcastic biting comments, ranging from "I'm fat because I eat, why are you crazy?" to "How many calories is in a troll sandwich?". Most were way funnier but I say f that noise, jam on my headphones and go for my walk.
It's bleak out, perfect walking weather for Florida, dark wet grey sky, the sun hidden and the clouds on the edge of rain.
Halfway into the first mile Suicidal Tendencies pops up. "You can't bring me down." I'd quote the lyrics here but you can easily google them and they would be all full of **** anyhow, and it was inspiring. I quickened the pace, made sure my phone was in its baggie in case the sky opened up, and kept going.
So, thanks. I'm betting my extra 400+ calories I got today that you were a troll, but if you weren't you inspired me to walk almost a half mile further then I ever have before. While your little post entertained a couple of people, and pissed off a couple of people, it contributed to me ending up lower then I expected, walked further then I ever did before, and I have the smug superiority that because I try to raise people up, rather then have them justify why they are down, I'm a way better human being then you.
Bring me down, you can't bring me down...

YOU ARE ON FIRE!!!! NEVER GIVE UP... THERE ARE *kitten* EVERYWHERE...USE THEIR IGNORANCE TO BRING YOU RIGHT TO THE FINISH LINE.... thank you for encouraging me to continue!!!! YOU are AWESOME!!!0

I tend to ignore the topics that I believe are trolls, even if they're not. Not worth my time.
Good to see you got positive motivation from it!0 -
Love this! And +100 for working Suicidal Tendencies in. Maybe all she wants is a Pepsi.0

I nominated that entire thread for "Stupidest topic of the Year". It's an early favourite.
Good for you for kicking Saturday in the butt. Keep at it.0 -
Great job taking something potentially discouraging and turning it into something inspiring!!
However, PLEASE remember that unless you down 3,500 calories (or 7,000 for 2 lbs) MORE than your maintenance (which hopefully is higher than your goal), you are NOT going to really "gain" an lb overnight. If the scale changes significantly between any two days, it is water weight (this happens to me every time I have to much sodium the day before), NOT real weight gain. You must use weekly weights to gauge real losses/gains.
Don't ever let a scale "gain" ruin your day! Realize that little fluctuations are very normal. Also try using measuring tape and exercise goals to gauge your progress.
Keep up the good work!!!0 -
This is great man and like they all say your doing good I'm happy to have you on my wall everyday and your log is always fun to read.
Thanks for the support you give and also the motivation you provide.
Hell of a walk and yeah its time for summer in FLA so the weather might not be that great but don't give up my friend ....0 -
Damn, I was going to re-read that thread. As an OCP I partially get where that girl was coming from, not with that exact frame of mind but other questions and the inability to detect how offensive one's post is. It was a genuine question from someone who admitted to being recovering ED who wondered (although incredibly offensively formulated) how the other end of the spectrum was.
On the other hand, you're doing great for yourself - keep up the positive attitude and protein rich breakfasts. Great work getting out of bed early!0 -

Oh fully aware, a lot of rum and salami last night. I know why it happened, I know it wasn't a real gain. I've been on a diet since I could read. I had a mother who had serious issues and some were set on me. I think I can tell you my life story easier with "I weighed x lbs when I did this" rather then the normal "I was y years old when I did that" having my moods tied to that stupid number is something that will take way more years of therapy then we have before the sun goes nova.0 -
Yeah, the reason I didn't post that stuff, though you can argue I passively aggressively did it in here, is because I've had friends with eating disorders on both sides, and on the odd chance she was for real I didn't want to be that much of a ****. Honestly though the few people I have known really well with it seemed to understand MY eating issues way better then normal people, why again I'm pretty sure ya'lls were posting in a troll thread.0

Good job walking in our lovely Florida weather today. Dont feed the trolls it makes them stronger :drinker:0

The first thought that ran through my head was nothing but sheer sarcasm. I wanted to punch that little idiot because of her stupidity. But like you, I won't let it bring me down either. I may be fat, but I'm not crazy, so life is good.0

Glad you got a great walk in, and way to turn it into something positive for you!
Re: Florida weather - it's been freaking beautiful all week while I'm at work and now?? Where's that dang sun?? :ohwell: Maybe tomorrow will be a good beach day. Have a great day all! :flowerforyou:0 -

Ok good. Sorry that you have issues. :frown: I would make a suggestion but i'm sure you have heard them all.
Good luck! :flowerforyou:0
