Do I Need Stability Shoes for Everyday Walking?

I'm hoping someone here can offer some knowledgeable advice on this. I'm an overpronator, and I recently re-started running. At first I was wearing old shoes, but after much knee pain, went back and got re-fitted and the pain is significantly reduced. During the run, I'm in very little pain, and as long as I ice afterwards, I'm fine.
Work is a different story. I'm constantly speed-walking around the building trying to chase down people and things. I average between 5 and 8 miles of brisk walking per day just at work. Yesterday was an 8 mile day, and when I wasn't walking I was standing. I noticed halfway through the day that my knees were hurting, my ankles were hurting, and that my shoes cause me to overpronate standing still. Eventually I took my shoes off and walked around the factory in my socks until I got in trouble.
I would just go buy a stability walking shoe, but here's the rub. I work with electronics and my work shoes are company issued static control shoes. I'm required to wear them. Many of our production workers have complained that the shoes hurt their feet, but the shoes have some seal of approval from some podiatrist association, so that's the end of the story as far as HR is concerned (I feel the need to point out that the people who choose the shoes sit at a desk all day, and aren't in the static.controlled area, so they don't have to wear the special shoes).
There is a workaround where we can wear a grounding strap with regular shoes, but it's meant to be a temporary solution. They get kind of ticked if you have static shoes and do that instead.
Sorry this got a bit rant-y. I guess my question is, am I right that walking this much in the wrong shoes is a problem? Or am I being dramatic? I don't want to start a sh!tstorm at work unless it's justified :-)

I was typically feeling stiffness in my knees and ankles during the week, but not to the same degree that the added running has created.
Then again, my work shoes probably have 700 to 800 miles on them now!0
