Anyone gone back to school for nutrition/dietetics?

Hi everyone!

I graduated from University of Maryland in 2006 with a degree in Government and French. Since then, my interest in nutrition has grown astronomically--to the point where my friends, boyfriend and family have started to urge me to go back and get a BS/Master's in something they see I'm obviously passionate about.

It seems incredibly daunting to go /back/ to school. I have a well-paying job right now in contracting, but it isn't what I want to do forever. I don't want it to be my life's work.

I guess I wanted to see if anyone has any tips/tricks for going back to school. Loans, how to make a living, etc. I worked at Starbucks and lived with my parents when I was an undergraduate last time. I live in Arizona now with my own place! It would be a vastly different world.

Thanks everyone. How did people make life decisions before teh internetz?!

I'm getting my B.S. in Nutrition Science. I'm a transfer student, and I was able to find find most of the lower division classes for my major at my junior college. Once I had my lower division classes fulfilled for both GE requirements and my major, I transferred to a 4 year school. I'm taking full advantage of my time by only working 10 hours a week so I can have a couple internships and get the most out of my education. Some transfers have even gotten everything done in 1.5 years!

If you're not in a rush, you could still work for a year or two and take a couple classes on the side. Junior colleges tend to be good about offering classes at night. Then you won't have to take out as many loans and work so much when you're at a 4 year.
  • Hey, thanks for your reply :) I've received a couple of responses from the schools I e-mailed asking for info and I'm setting up an appointment to meet with an advisor from ASU.

I looked into the local Community College, and unfortunately they don't offer any bio or chem classes at night. I'm going to talk to the ASU advisor about this because I think, honestly, that since I'm really gung-ho at this point I should just knock it out all at once while working only limited hours. I'd rather do it that way than continue working full-time at my current job and also trying to dip my toes in the water of subjects I've traditionally found difficult.

Also, everyone I've ever talked to hated and was miserable in organic chemistry. That's the only class I'm really a bit nervous about. Other than that, I'm so excited to be going back to school!

I am looking into it as I type this. Can't find a school w/ distance learning that is accredited. I think I'd really like to help families and children learn how to be healthy, and maybe stop some obesity before it starts?? Silly?
