My name is Nicole and I am training to run the San Diego Rock 'N Roll half marathon coming up this June 3 2012 to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I have a goal of raising $3000.00 for LLS and to help me reach that goal, I have created a virtual 5k. Finishers get a decked out Leukemia and Lymphoma medal that can be viewed in my album titled Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at the following link.

I am running for LLS because it is such a great cause. Not only are they fighting for those with blood cancers, their research touches all other areas of cancer. There have been many advances in medicine funded by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). One of the most remarkable stories is with the drug Gleevec. Since its approval by the Food and Drug Administration in 2001, Gleevec has become the standard first-line therapy for newly diagnosed chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients. LLS helped advance this groundbreaking targeted therapy and supported the researchers who helped develop it. But Gleevec is not only used for Leukemia. It has spread as a treatment for other cancers such as stomach, skin, breast, nerve, brain, prostate, lung, thyroid and ovarian. Also Gleevec is used for patients with mesothelioma and Alzheimer’s. Please realize that your dollar is helping not only those affected by blood cancers, but you are funding broad research across the medical field.
Please consider donating and share with your friends!
