Should weekly total of calories burned = 3500?

I was looking at the "weekly total" of calories burned from exercise, and I have 2828. Basically the subject says it all, but in order to lose a pound a week does that number have to be 3500?
Sorry if this is such a DUH question; I've never thought about it before.

The theory is that you have to create a calorie deficit, either through calorie reduction or calories burned. It's a theory; not everyone loses weight every week even if they follow their program their perfectly. I would be skeptical of calories burned estimates. They are frequently inflated.0
