I am so glad that I confessed to my friend that my eating had spiraled out of control, just a week ago. She mentioned this site, and I decided to try it.
Having rowed lightweight many years ago as a tall person (and therefore having had to make an unhealthy weight once a week), I am the perfect person to say that frequent crash dieting doesn't work. I think it set me up for what was going to be a lifetime of unhappiness with myself. About eight years ago, I read Potatoes not Prozak, and that helped me understand a sugar dependence and learn my triggers. I also finally learned not to judge myself by what I saw on the scale. That was a huge improvement. But recently life got a little stressful and offered me unlimited free junk food at the same time, and I accepted!
I've done all sorts of diets in my time, and had basically sworn off them, because I would always try to just eat as little as possible, and I knew that was wrong, so it was with misgivings that I signed up for this one. But the fact that the site gives me more calories when I exercise means that I can fuel my body as it's meant to be fueled on those days when I end up getting more exercise than I'd planned. I truly appreciate this system, and I also appreciate the community. I can't quite believe it's free, but it's a good thing, because otherwise I wouldn't be here, and I'd probably still be trying to cram as many of the little junky snacks into my mouth as possible. That just doesn't happen when I am writing down every bite I take!
Thanks to the folks who run this site, thanks to those who do their research and offer others good advice (as well as support), and thanks especially to Kate! I am feeling way better than I was a week ago.
(Oh, and in case anyone wonders about "a week" if the ticker shows up, I suspect that once I dropped the sugary snacks, some water weight dropped too...I tend to get very blobby when I eat sugar and white flour. From now on, the weight should come off at a normal speed, or I will drop my goal to half a pound a week. I want whatever I lose to stay off, and I know that anything faster than a pound a week is not real for me.)
