I'm 15 years old and 12 stone 3 pounds (172.2 lb) mosty built of body fat rather than muscle. I was just curious, am I to young or overweight to be starting the P90x programme? I am prety unactive and I thought "If I'm going to start, I wan't to start big!" My parents are against me buying this product in the basis that I am so unfit and they feel that it will be a waste of money. So in conclusion, should I purchase P90x even though I may seem young and I am fairly overweight/unfit?

I'd say go for it. BUT, if you want to try something a bit shorter & WAY cheaper to try out first, how about Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred? And when you've tackled that, see if p90x is still something you really want to challenge yourself with. (I hope it is!)

I love P90x but you need free weights and pull up bar which cost extra...

you are not too young or too fat to do P90X. I have been doing it for over a year,it's STILL a challenge! i love the variety of the exercises. Also, you work to your ability. If you can only do 5 lb weights, then that's what you do, you must challenge yourself but also have patience to give your body time to respond to what you are doing. Keep in mind, food/diet is 80% of losing weight and getting healthier and fit. If you are past the point that you think you have a grip on your eating habits, and walking is too easy for you, then by all means, i 1000% endorse P90X!!!!

15 years old. Join a sports team at school. Stop playing video games, and go ride your bike. Tell your mum to stop buying you junk food. Stay off the interweb unless you are using it for homework.

watch Richard neals story. He did it!, so I think you are capable. You may want to try 10 minute trainer or power 90 first, Show this to your parents. Just make sure you are ready its not easy, 80% of the program is nutrition, Why dont you start dieting and then maybe once they see how committed you are then try P90X. Good luck . I am a P90X Graduate and former soldier, P90X was physically harder than boot camp( minus some Drill Sgts)

you don't need a chin up bar until you are advanced, you can use rocks for weight, bands cost 5$, empty bottles with water in them will work too.

I agree with this. The 30 Day Shred will kick your *kitten* bad enough. If you can get through 30 days of that, then consider P90X or something else that's not quite THAT intense.

I have the P90X, I found it too difficult when I weighed 220lbs. Every time I did a disk my muscles and joints were in pain for 3-4 days afterwards; not a nice muscle burn, but pain. I have been doing side jogging and using my rowing machine with the occasional P90X Cardio X disk. I will give it another try when I get under 200 lbs and see if I can do it then.
And yes, you will need some adjustable weights and a nice pad for the plyometrics and ab ripper x disks which will add to the already annoying cost.
To sum up my post, you have to be financially and physically ready for this series, it isn't something to casually approach.

P90x is expensive for sure and you need to also buy weights/resistance bands, a good quality workout mat, a heart rate monitor and good training shoes. It is also a very gruelling program. I would suggest talking to your doctor first and asking what they would recommend. You may be better to start off with a more cardio based workout program with some gentle strength training exercises as well.

Totally up to you though, my only warning with P90x is that maintaining proper form is very important. Some routines are very high impact (Plyometrics for one) and the program is more tailored to people who already have some level of fitness and experience. I use the program but I have to modify a number of exercises.

Always getting advice from a healthcare professional should be your first stop before undertaking any strenuous workout program.

    Good luck!

Buy P90X, or get your parents to buy it. Have them do it with you! My 15 year old son is doing with with me and loves it. It is a great program, but don't forget to follow the meal plan - or at least keep good track of your intake. You won't lose any weight if you overeat, regardless of what program you follow.

i do not think you are too young or over weight, the dvds are a challenge but if you set your mind to it you can do it! you do have to buy a few extra things with the dvd's like a yoga mat, free weights, pull up bar or bands. but its a great workout and anyone CAN do it, you just have to try, it will be hard at first but the longer you do it the better you will get at all the moves. I say GO for it if you are serious about getting in shape and will really use them. if you are unsure about doing them them start losing weight on your own just buy a few weights and look up some videos online but the p90x program will really help you get into shape by showing you what to do and when to do it + they have an awesome nutrition guide if you decide to follow it.

P90X is totally modifiable BUT I would suggest you buy a pull - up bar & some cheap free weights. Eat plenty of good food, drink more water than you can stand & go to bed earlier than your parents & you will see a massive improvement if you keep pressing play. Don't be put off that you are too young BUT don't waste the money if its just a fad!

It will be tougher than anything you have done before BUT is a great program :)

I don't agree with Tuscnina....good workout bands are expensive and if you are using them in place of dumbbells you need a set ranging in resistance. Sure buying one light band may be cheap but they aren't as effective as the strong bands. You also need to be able to attach one to a door for the "pull up" workouts. One of my heavy bands is permanently affixed to my door.

Definitely if you are in school i would suggest finding a sport program that you enjoy. I was very active in school and remained the same (healhy) weight purely through doing daily activity. It's always more fun to workout if you enjoy what you are doing. Do you like playing any sports like tennis, baseball, basketball?

I really don't think it's necessary for 15 year olds to be lifting weights. A balanced diet along with daily activity should be enough. I would leave the workout programs until you are out of highschool. Besides I thought that weight lifting wasn't recommended for people under the age of 18?
