Hi all,

My protein powder ran out the other day. When I went to get some more, I decided I would change flavour as I was getting pretty bored with it and purchased the tub in Strawberry instead of Chocolate.

Anyway, when I had two scoops of the powder mixed with bottled water on Saturday, I experienced a very disgusting metallic after taste. It didn't last too long, but certainly wasn't nice.

I've never had this before with my chocolate powder. I tried to do a little research about it online, but I couldn't find much information.

Is this normal? If so, what causes it?

The powder I used can be found here: http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/product_detail.asp?pid=100&MCatID=5&prodid=565&cid=47&sid=0

Many thanks

  • I use a chocolate mix too, and it has a funny aftertaste. I think it is the sweeteners they put in it. Tastes sort of aspartamey. I have found that if I mix about 1/4-1/2 a cup of almond milk in with the water the taste is much better.

Same brand probably uses the same sweetener, but may want to check.
I've had some foul tasting whey but none metallic tasting. Best of luck =P

    Thanks for your responses. :)

The protein powder is aspartame free, so that elimainates that specific product being a problem. I had a look at what sweetener it contains - sucralose. Is it likely that that's causing the taste? Sucralose was in my chocolate powder too, but could the cocoa have been covering the taste? I've never heard of it before, so don't know much about it.

Thanks morninglilli - adding almond milk in to the mix sounds like a great idea. I'll have to pop to the shops in the morning to try that out.
  • Mine doesnt have aspartame in it either, but it has a nasty artificial sweetener taste, so maybe it is the Sucralose. I hope the almond milk helps. :)
