Waist measurements?

I have lost 26 pounds and have gone down from a tight size 18 to a loose 14. I took some waist measurements today however, and I am still at 42 inches. I understand that brand sizes range, but does anyone else wear a size 14 and have waist measurements? Maybe I'm doing it wrong?
