Weights for arms...question

I belong to Planet Fitness and love using their 30 minute circuit room. When I am using the machines to work my arms, I want to make sure I don't bulk up. So my question is, what weight should I be using to get lean? Should I be pushing myself to the max limit, or lighter weight?

You won't bulk up.
lift heavy.0 -
You are a woman. You will not bulk up like a man. It's not genetically possible unless you're a freak of nature. Don't lift so much that you get injured, but push yourself. Good luck.0

Hi
I have been assured by my instructor at the gym that women often have a fear of lifting too heavy or too often and it making them have 'massive man muscles' but he said this is simply not possible.
Unless you are taking anything to bulk you up then a woman should really just become more toned and depending how much fat to muscle you have you will be able to see varying degrees of muscle definition.
I have slowly increased my weights and have only so far noticed a big difference in the tops of my arms. They haven't got any bigger. If anything they seem leaner as they are much more defined
Hope this helps??

I'm looking to have a little more arm definition and am using little 3 lb weights, with 50 lift reps on each arm. I will move to 5 in a couple of weeks... but I also have REALLY weak arms, so I didn't want to injure myself haha0

3lbs weighs less than a half gallon of milk.
I think you'd get better results if you went up to 8 pound weights with 20 reps total.
ETA: If you are doing just bicep curls you'll also get better results with compound lifts IME.0 -
I was told when I started out to do 10 reps with the weight and if my arm muscle begins to hurt or shake, it's too heavy. I'm going from absolutely no lifting (ie struggling to carry a gallon of milk) to doing some, so I started out with 3 as after 50 reps, I feel like I've worked my muscles a little. I'm moving to 5 soon. 8 was uncomfortable to curl.0
