Toe Nail Problems

I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue:

Back in 2009, I did the Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk and lost a toe nail. I don't think the nail grew back correct because everything I start a walking/running training program I have pain around that nail and will sometimes find blood in my sock (sorry, I know it's gross).

Would "tapping" the nail help? It's the only thing I can think of. This happens in any shoe, even barefoot if I walk enough. I don't want a little toe nail pain to stop me but it's getting annoying.

Thanks!

This is usually because your shoes are too small. For running shoes, go a 1/2 to full size larger than your street shoe.
  • I work for a poridatrist and that usually occurs with trauma, but after the nail falls off it may grow back with a fungus which is making it painful and still bleeding/. Don't be surprised if it continues to fall. Get it checked by a doctor.

I think I'll have to see a doctor. I went to a specialty shoe store to be fitted for shoes. I normally wear a size 6.5/7 but all my gym shoes are at least a 7.5

I have a doctor appt set for last this month. Hopefully he will be able to help.

    Thanks!

I broke my toe last July. Amazining, the nail seemed fine. In February, it seemed to be getting ingrown at the spot where new nail had grown in. (You know how you can tell when the injury occurred? Kind of like rings on a tree? You can just see the difference in the nail.) I fixed that, but then, in March, right before beach vacation, the nail broke off at that weak spot, and my pedi looked awful for the beach. I went to a nail salon and had the girl apply a fake nail to it. It looked good, and it is keeping it growing in at the right spot instead of ingrown.

Check with a doc, but the fake toenail thing might help after the doc gets you on track. It isn't long or gross. Just looks normal.

    I will!

I keep my toe nails trimmed all the time. I can't tell a difference from my other toe nails. The shorter I keep it the less it bothers me.
