My first 5K.....advise please.

I am scheduled to run my first 5K in August. I just started 2 weeks ago attending the gym. I have bad knee's, overweight, and totally out of shape. I'm 36 years old, and weigh 250lbs. I have never ran before, and never was a runner when I was younger and in shape. I want to run this race in Memory of My Father who passed away for his birthday. Can you please give me some advise on how to train, if I can do this, and whatever helpful information you can provide. Thanks.....

You can totally do it. But don't procrastinate starting.

Google Couch to 5K. It works well. If you feel it is too hard/too easy its more than okay to tweak the intervals to work for you.

Couch to 5K (C25K) is a great program for beginners.

I cannot recommend C25K enough..I started it last January and could barely make it through the 60 second running intervals, and I just ran my first half marathon last weekend. Trust me, it's hard work in the beginning but if you stick with it you will see great results!! Good luck!! You have plenty of time to train! :)
