When escaping from a Zombie horde, what to wear?

I'm doing the Run For Your Life race on Saturday. Has anyone done one of these? What do people typically wear? I'm assuming some sort of costume? I've done a few other adventure races, but there wasn't a theme, so no costumes.

This race sounds like so much fun!!! I was looking at the one in Indianapolis (in June) but watching some of the video etc of previous ones.. I think it would be a bit much for me still.

IF I were attending though, I'd probably wear the pants I use to run in, and a fitted t-shirt. From what I understand, it's only the "zombies" that will need costume and you as a participant will recent flags that they will pull off you.

I don't have an answer, but I'm responding hoping to bump this up.

I did Warrior Dash and there were some awesome costumes at that one! Doing the Zombie run in December, so anxious to hear responses!

Same as Susie....I am doing Warrior Dash in 3 weeks and a couple of us girls were entertaining the idea of naughty nurse costumes.....not sure yet tho ...

Is that the one in Amesbury? I was going to stop by until I found out they are charging for spectators. Now the race is just going to screw my drive to the gym. Or at elast the Warrior Dash they hosted last year pretty much shut down the West side of town.

If you have time to get something together, go as Alice from Resident Evil XD

    Have fun!

This sounds amazingly fun. I've fallen off from running, but being chased by zombies seems like it would definitely inspire me! Good luck!

I'd say be sure not to wear anything that a zombie can easily grab on to... The more costume bits you have, the more likely they are to catch you, I'd think.

I found out about this race and HAVE to do it!! I'm trying to get a group together to do the one by us in Aug.

From the pics and videos on their website, it didn't look like people were dressed up (except the zombies, of course). I know Warrior and Spartan kind of encourage costumes (I'm doing a Spartan and 2 Warriors this summer, too!!), but this one seems less focused on costumes and more on "surviving". But, you can probably dress up if you want to. It just might make you an easier target (in my opinion).

    HAVE FUN!!!!

I did this race last October, and my husband and I are doing it again this October =) Last year I wore a pair of black, fitted exercise capri's and my Dawn of the Dead fitted tee-shirt. There were a lot of people done up like zombies and it made it really confusing, but it added to the chaos and it was a total blast!!!

With my luck I'd be in my kitty cat flannels. That being said, if I had time I'd ask Alice if I could borrow her dress.

Just kidding of course... I want to do this as well. :) Probably something I don't mind getting dirty. :)

<--- I went with kind of a Michonne (from Walking Dead) look, with lightweight katana swords crossed on my back, torn and bloody white tshirt and comfortable black running pants. This was in last year's Zombie Buffet 5K in Nashville. There were lots of humans dressed as medical personnel, and lots of zombie tshirts. I personally like the Winchester Tavern tshirts from Sean of the Dead, but there were some great homemade ones with stuff like "<---- I'm with Tasty" or "Catch me, zombie m... f...."

    Oh, yeah, good point.

Please state the nationality of the zombies in question. My plan would backfire badly with Italian zombies.

What? No... some are bloated and float; and some bodies of water are shallow enough for them to reach up and grab. None of them swim. That's the whole point of the underwater tracking/killing teams towards the end of the book.

I would not argue with someone named ZombieSlayer.

Dressing as "Walking Dead" characters would be pretty sweet.

Wear something you don't care if you have to throw it out afterwards. We did the one in Atlanta last March. We were coated in GA red clay - even the black clothes were stained! RFYL tells you they have a "clean-up area"...LOL!! It's just a PVC pipe that drips water on you. Bring extra shoes, too. They have a donation tent where you can donate your running shoes after the race. I can't remember which foundation, though. Lots of people were wearing crazy costumes, but that seemed to make it harder to slog through the mud and water. Have fun!!! We can't wait until the next one!

I Just did a very scaled down version this weekend in Grand Rapids, no obstacles and the zombies did not chase you.. They just hang out on the course and occasionally jump out from behind a tree.. The run for your lives version looks much more intense and as soon as I can run 5k I will definitely sign up for one.

After reading all these comments, I think I'm going to save my old running shoes for the race and maybe add some safety pins to my workout pants that are getting too big. (August in Seattle)
