I had half of my thryroid removed 2 months ago, my second benign (thank god) tumor.
My levels seem to be okay, still up and down, but okay. I'm having trouble losing, my weight seems to be at a standstill, but I am losing inches............
anyway just curious who else has an evil thyroid

I have hypothyroidism but I am on medication that regulates it to a normal working thyroid. Not sure how that works if you have part of it removed. Are you on medication? If so that shouldn't be a reason for being overweight or not losign weight.0

I may have an evil thyroid, but I haven't been tested yet. It runs in the family, but I am having the same problem as you. Losing only 10 pounds a year and yet I am losing inches, just not actual pounds :frown: I understand you completely0

I have a serverly underactive Thyroid. It took me years and several doctors to get the medication levels right. And it always seems like twice as much work to lose the weight! Hang in there. I am finally making progress myself. Always ask your doctors what your TSH levels are, and though they claim anything high as 5 is acceptable (normal being from .5 to 5) the closer you can get to 1 the better you will feel. I am also going through the losing the inches but not the weight phase right now. I'm confident that its fat lost and muscle gained, and when the scale starts moving again I think the progress will be faster. That's why I joined this site 2 weeks ago, to make sure I get my eating going as well as my exercising already is.0

I had my entire thyroid removed about 7 years ago. You might want to check with your doc to make sure you are getting enouh T4 and T3, sometimes they have to supplement the hormone with another. Also, make sure you are not using generics. Those sometimes can have varying amounts of hormone in them, making it very unreliable.0

I just found out a year ago that I have hypothyrodism (although I'm pretty sure I had it for at least four years before I actually got it checked), and have been on medication for it since last May. Although I just had my levels checked last month and everything is normal, I have hit a plateau in losing weight after only three weeks. I'm pretty sure that my thyroid has something to do with it, because when I was younger I could try my hardest to put weight on, with no avail (I didn't hit 100 lbs until I was 16), and now I can't seem to lose it for the life of me. I haven't really asked my doctor about it becuase he would tell me there is no reason to lose weight because I'm in the 'healthy' weight category with a BMI of 20.
I think the only thing I can do is change my diet and exercise around every so often to shock my body into losing that weight again.
Did you have any problems with your hair? Mine became so thin before I got on medication, it was almost unbearable.0 -
My doctor just told me that my thyroid is working just right but my brain is not registering it so it keeps yelling at my thyroid to do more. He has put me on thyroid med and will recheck it in a month. He said they have to really keep my brain/thyroid in balance or it causes stress on the heart and people die young from this. Hopefully when they get in balance I will start feeling better and losing more.

I agree with the other posts on how important it is to get a good Endocrinologist and to get on medication that supports T3 and T4. Ihave been on thyroid medication for years now. Until I found the right doctor and got on both Synthroid and Cytomel (supports T3) I had problems with fatigue and my weight was harder to control.
Until the thyroid gets properly treated and medicated, it's very likely your quality of life and weight loss efforts will suffer. Don't give up on getting the proper medical care that you need! What my doctor meaures for is Free T3 and Free T4 and TSH. I had to go to three Endocrinologists until I found one who finally listened to me and would test for the T3 and T4.
Good luck!0
