My fitness facility is run by the hospital here and they offer a wide range of things/tests b/c of this. One of the things is metabolic testing. It is noninvasive so I guess no needles and it takes about 45 minutes. There is an additional cost of 45.00. I am wondering if it is really worth it. Is it really going to tell me anything more than what this website has told me about what I need to eat to survive.
Anyone done this? What were your results compared to info you rec'd here?

Hi there.
I have seen a bit on metabolic testing and if you have a very hard time losing wieght even when you are doing everything right (eating + exercise) and still haven't lost any weight I think then spending the money might be justified. However for most people their metabolism is pretty normal and if they haven't done anything to slow it down (like only eating once a day or a starvation diet) they can easily rev it to the max by eating at least five to six small meals a day and getting reasonable exerice.
Good luck

Thanks for the input. I was just curious if there was something "special" about it.0

I had it done and it told me that my metabolism functioned in the 10th percentile for someone my sex, age and height......I just found it very discouraging at first, basically it made me feel that I just wouldn't be able to lose. 1 year later and 80 lbs heavier, I have been working hard and using this site and I feel like I've accomplished a lot, knowing that I'm already at some what of a disadvantage and I'm losing quite quickly just motivates me to keep working hard and hopefully I can overcome this slow metabolism and bring it back up to a normal rate. I don't know that it was worth it, at first it just gave me an excuse to be heavy, now it's motivating me to make a positive lifestyle change!0

I just had mine tested two days ago. It was 1265, which is only 35 cals less than I see in online calculators, and that could be accounted for through error (my mask leaked several times). So I haven't really changed my calories or anything, because I was already eating the right amount. I did it because it was free. For $45...I'm not sure if I would or not, but then again I am a broke college kid  It may be worth your time in case you aren't part of the average for your size/age. I am pretty much smack dab average for mine.0
