I'm a bit perturbed.....I just got on and from yesterday morning it reads 1 lb more! ugh...but ya know what it could be two things....or three things....but I wanted your input if you wouldn't mind....lol

1. Its a digital scale and honestly can't remember the last time I changed the batteries....

2. I'm retaining water because I know I ate great yesterday and even got a run in...

3. I need to stay away from the scale everyday....its too much and I may be approaching that time...ya know...hmmm not sure...can you retain water like 2 wks before it? sorry I'm lost on that ....

okay so any thoughts are welcome....I'm not gonna let it get me I feel smaller my waist looks smaller....staying positive....but for how long :frown: LOL

hugs!

    You need time away.
Weighing yourself every day is sort of counterproductive since I find that my mood can plumet with an upward notch on the scale even though I know that I have been losing. One pound is 99% of the time just retention but it doesn't help ones mood so weighing yourself every four days to every week is a better option.
    Good luck

I def. know what you're going through...
Before i started here, I was trying to diet on my own, and I was on the scale everyday. A couple times it would say I was gaining weight when I was trying to lose it....one time it said I gained five pounds! I wanted to just bawl and stuff my face with chocolate! I'd say take a break from the scale...I know I'm only going to weigh myself about once a week.

Take the time to read this article. It helped me tremendously. I spent several month-long periods not weighing myself at all. It can really break your stride if it doesn't go the way you want it to.

Buy yourself a tape measure, and record your measurements every two weeks. Especially if you're weight training, this is a much better way to keep track of things. I have a friend who weighs 15 pounds less than I do, but wears a dress size that is two sizes bigger than me (same dress, same store). So, the scale is a liar. Would you rather weigh less or be smaller? Me, I'd rather be smaller.

also, with a digital scale. . . it needs to "calibrate" itself every time. So, step on it and right back off until it goes to "O", then get back on.

(I almost forgot . . .otherwise it remembers the last weight, or something.)

    Ali,

Weight changes with sodium alone. I've been told weigh once a week, I know it's hard but I use Monday in the morning. In the last 4 weeks I've lost 14 lb. Tomorrow is weigh-in I hope I lose another 2 lb. When you think about it 2 lb a week in a year that's 104 lb. Don't lose the faith I know it is tuff but we can all make it :-).

I weigh on the first day of each MONTH and I've heard of others who only weigh every 6 weeks. I suppose the reasoning for me, and maybe for them, is that the scale will definitely effect my mood and behavior for the following week. I'd much rather see a 4 to 8 pounds weight loss at the end of a month than a half pound one (or maybe an increase) for the week. I take measurements on that day also.

I went to this web site and I really enjoyed reading it.
  • Us guys have those periods too LOL!
I can be even 3.5 lbs more than normal for two days!
Trust, trust, if you weigh yourself every day like I do.
I wish I could stay away from the cale but it is REALLY addictive - my worst addiction I have right now :grumble:

I agree, step away! Choose a time and a scale and make a date once a week......your weight fluctuates during the day and weighing so often can cause you to feel failure even though you may be losing weight.
