Heart rate monitors and calories...

Hello all! I have a question that might be silly, but I am looking into a hear rate monitor...the kind with the watch and the chest strap. What I noticed when browsing some options on the internet is that some of the models specifically say " Displays calories burned' , but on others it doesn't.

So do all heart rate monitors calculate calories burned or only those that say it???

I am feeling rather dumb about this topic.... so someone fill me in!!

Thanks

I have a timex one and it displays the calories burned if you set it up. I found my at London Drugs. Not sure if you have one near you. You should be able to find them in a fitness store.

I have a timex and it counts them for me, but it also lists on the box that it counts it.

No, not all heart rate monitors calculate calories. I almost made that mistake and got one that didn't. I got a Reebok Precision Trainer XT (also known at the Pro Form Precision Trainer XT) and LOVE it.

Not all heart rate monitors calculate calories burned. I have a Polar F11 and it does show calories burned - I would recommend this one.

I have the Reebok one that was mentinoe above and I JUST BROKE IT! Ugh, I'm so mad. Without thinking, I pulled on the strap to take it off and snapped the rubber piece on the strap.

Note to all: Don't get impatient and pull on the strap!

Oh, that stinks! How long ago did you get it? Maybe call the company and see if they would send a replacement.

I have a Polar F6 and it tells you your calories burned. It works really well.

Wow guys! I feel much more educated.

I am glad I asked instead of assuming!

    Have a great day!

I got it about 3 weeks ago from buy.com. I've gotta check into seeing what my options are...I don't think I can fix it, but I'm hoping just the strap can be replaced. Or maybe I can rig it somehow. :explode:
