They are dangerous, can cause very poor health from side effects. Not that smoking is a healthy choice either, but it's not the right method.

As stated, the cheaper ones are the dangerous ones.... The link I posted is actually to the industry-standard e-cig. My BF works in an office full of nerds and they are all allowed to use their e-cigs inside. They were actually given one each for Christmas by the higher ups to reduce health insurance costs and reduce smoke breaks.

Anyway, these "nerds" (very smart people who do linux administration/server monitoring all day) are all very competitive and want the best of the best in their vaping (vaping = using vapor = ecig/other vaping device). The Provape or Provari is still the best on the market.

When I quit smoking before, the Ecig satisfies your nic craving, but you still crave a cigarette every now and then. Why? Because of the 32 pages of ingredients the cigarette has, not the nicotine itself. You actually crave all the other crap they have in it, addictive additives, rat poison and all. Ecig definitely helps, it has much fewer toxins than a regular cig. Not as good as quitting entirely, but much much better. I could run and work out, and my muscles would actually get tired before I would lose my breath, instead of vice versa with the smoking cigarettes.

Looking forward to quitting smoking again with the e-cig once my new batteries come in. Was stupid to start again anyway, but I still smoke much less than I did before I quit the first time.

Just thought I would mention this because it is absolutely ridiculous, but Indianapolis has a smoking ban. One of the council members has now proposed a ban on E cigarettes as well!! Apparently non-smoking isn't good enough, kids are still getting the wrong message from the e-cigs. :noway:

I have tried everything...E-cigs just weren't the same & I still had the habit of putting something in my hands & mouth...The best thing that I have tried is a book - Crazy huh? But I highly recommend it...'The EASYWAY to Stop Smoking' by Allen Carr....I have heard really great things & for only $10 bucks its worth it to try it out....I read it & quit cold turkey but unfortunately started back up...UGH!! I am now reading it again... Best of luck! :)

I haven't read the other replies but my uncle was on 40 a day about 2 months ago. Now he has max 5 while using the electric cig. Seems to be working for him. My aunt has quit completely!!! You can do it x
  • I've got 2 Joye E10's. I absolutely love them. I go back and forth between smoking and not smoking. An E-Cig has always made the transition easier for me. I prefer the Joye E10 due to the accessories and conveniences it has, though there are many other models that have similar options.

Edit: I've read the book by Allen Carr that some have mentioned. I recommend it as well, and you can generally find a pdf version of it around online still from a promotion a while back. If you're close-minded while reading this book, it will not work for you at all. You have to want to quit.

You guys need a petition! That is ridiculous! Tell them they're just like fog machines... I smoke IN my office all the time and people walk in and out - no one can ever tell!
  • I started e-cigs 2 weeks ago...I am an almost 30 year smoker, by the way (42 years old). I recently started bikram yoga to try to lose weight (I'm working on more than a 60 lb weight loss goal)...smoking and hot and humid don't go well together. Since I started smoking the e-cigs...I've had easier time breathing, my lungs have been working at trying to clear themselves out (the smoker cough you get when you try quitting), I don't huff and puff trying to get around. Also, you take out everything about the cigarette, except for the nicotine (and whatever flavoring you choose). It's a nebulizer that converts the nicotine and flavor into a vapor...so, if you're going to be a smoker...believe it or not, it's been referred to as almost being a "healthy way" of being a smoker, if you're going to continue doing it...it knocks out the actual smoke inhalation, and all the other carcinogens associated with the smoking.
I have read somewhere, you can also control the AMOUNT of nicotine you intake...that, I'm not sure about, I know you can get the e-cigs with or without nicotine...
I noticed I have "smoked" alot less since getting these. You don't feel like you have to "race" the cigarette to get the most drags out of it before it burns out. This one...you can drag once or twice...be satisfied...and leave it alone...
If you're trying to quit...the bottom line, you will quit if your WANT TO... and it takes alot of work and will power.
E-cigs...in my opinion...could be a good catalyst/help...if you seriously want to quit, but need to wean yourself off. Only you can make that final decision (like any other anything bad for you) to finally say "no more."
I wish you lots of luck...it's hard, I know!! But, YOU CAN TOTALLY DO IT!!! :)
  • I haven't tried electric cigarettes, but when I quit smoking five years ago, I was taught to brush my teeth often, and drink strongly flavored juices (like Grapefruit) to alter the chemistry of my mouth. The general idea was that worst nicotine withdrawal would happen in the first week, and afterwards the strongest cravings would be caused by triggers - usually relating to tastes, smells, textures, and events in the mouth. The juice (taken with every craving) neutralizes that, as does the frequent brushing.

It worked for me. I threw out my box of smokes, and never looked back.

Just to clarify this point, when you buy the e-juice (the drops you put in your e-cig of the liquid that gets vaporized), you can usually choose how many milligrams of nicotine come in the juice. Just as an example, I've bought this Blackberry Rum flavor before and you can choose between 0mg, 6, 12, 18, or 24.

    https://www.ttteliquids.com/Shop/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=7

...so you can start with the 24mg and then slowly cut back until you are at 0mg. I personally still use the 24mg, and I don't buy the flavored juices anymore, just the regular, because it tends to gum up the atomizer and reduce the life of it (sometimes by quite a bit).

They are dangerous, can cause very poor health from side effects. Not that smoking is a healthy choice either, but it's not the right method.

And where did you get your info from? Please don't tell me it was that half assed FDA study, which has been proven to be a farce.

I was a PAD smoker for 13 years before switching to the ecig. I breath much better now and can actually jog without much trouble. Maybe someday I'll get sick of it and stop the habit, but until then, I will enjoy inhaling w/o the risk of giving myself a disease associated with smoking. I feel the difference and I've read countless stories of people who have improved their health by using these devices.

Here's the thing people need to understand about ecig:

1- they are not all created equal. I suspect some of the accidents people have had were due to using the wrong charger or some cheap knock off brand. Always use the charger that comes with the device, don't switch things up if you have more than one brand of ecig. Do not buy the gas station/mall kiosk garbage, go to Electronic Cigarette Forum and read some reviews, and you should be able to find one that works for you. This is a trail an error deal, don't be discouraged if you don't like the first thing you get. Once you find a brand you like, you will save a ton of money.

2- If you are going to buy one, make sure you buy the juice from US manufacturers. I wouldn't trust anything coming from China. I'd check out Halo and Alien Evision Ejuice. They are the best I've tried so far in my experience.

3-Understand that some people can quit the habit all together by using these, but not everyone can. It's better imo to view it as an alternative to an unhealthy habit rather than a cessation device. However, switching to these will greatly improve your health when compared to the alternative.

4-Do not fall for the "quit or die" mentality that is spread by the gov, and anit-smoking nazis. The gov is not a fan of these because they lose tax revenue when people switch to these. The anti smoking crowd will look for any reason to make someone stop a habit they find annoying. It's about control in the end.

5-There are many sizes of batteries you can buy, most people start out with the smaller kinds that look like a traditional cig. But as some people will find, they don't last more than a few hours. Most people will graduate from the mini's to a larger ego size battery. For those that have bought the mini size, don't make a final judgement on these until you have tried a larger type of battery. Also, if using an atomizer is not your thing, try using a cartomizer because it is less of a hassle to use.

I have used one for 3 years, I have changed companies over the years, but have never gone back to regular cigarettes. With in a few weeks of using mine, I felt better, breathed better and could taste again. Love mine!!

while it may not be as good as quitting, you still have the side effects of Nicotine, I am very satisfied with my e-cig. If you are interested, I use Volcano E-cig.

    Thanks,

I just started using an Inferno and love it. What type do you use?

I quit using the patch over a year ago. I've had other friends try the Elec Cig and not ONE was able to permanently quit.

I have never even thought about trying that as I wanted to break the hand to mouth habit. I'm sure it's good for some, but I used chantix and it worked great for me.

Yes they work without a doubt! My hubby and myself smoked for 20+ years. The day we bought our first ecig we never smoked again:) Hop on over to www.e-cigarette-forum.com/ which is the worlds largest ecig forum and there are plenty of helpful, knowledgeable adults who steer you in the right direction. They are so much safer than cigarettes! The problem is since tobacco companies are losing money and smokers they fight them which is why you hear only of the scary mishaps which happen from user error. Eg. blowing up ecigs are usually the result of a person using the wrong batteries etc..and you dont hear all the great things. Just dont waste your money on a mall ecig, liquor store ecig or a free offer on tv as those are junk and never work.. .I am certain when you read up on them, and try them you will never look back!!! I know I never did and I am the healthiest I have been in years! :)

I bought the brand "Clean Cig" It was $26.00 for one battery and 2 filters plus battery charger. It's $3 for per filter. My problem isn't at home because I have never smoked inside of my house before, but when I get into my car. It's the hand to mouth thing that really bothers me. I tried it out this morning and its almost lunch time and I really don't have a craving for one.

I am a lite smoker though. I can make a pack last 3 days if something doesn't trigger me into smoking more. I think that if I just use this for my car rides I can get through it a lot easier and that will help a lot. I really do want to quit smoking because I have noticed how poorly I have been breathing and having allergies does not help either. I would actually like to run without getting winded and I can't do that. I can walk 6 miles but to be able to run them would be incredible!
  • The largest number of smokers quit going cold turkey. I was suggest reading this book:

Today is day 2 of not having a real smoke. I hardly puffed on the e-cig this morning. I do feel better not having smoked because of my allergies and all. All I really wanted to do with the e-cig is to ween myself off from nicotine gradually. People usually say that day 3 is the hardest and once I get past that I am in the clear. I don't plan on keeping up with smoking the e-cig. I just wanted something in case I got the urge it would take the edge off.

My step mom has successfully quit by using the ecig. She tried it in june of last year and she is now smoke free and doesn't even use the ecig. It is possible! You can do it!

    *runs to get her ecig*

I am pretty sure that I can do it too.. Just keep me away from people that smoke and I think I will be all set for a LOONNGG TIME!! I think seeing people that do it really does make it that much harder. I haven't been around people that smoke in the past 3 days. However, I told my friends that I am quitting and my bff said she would try to quit too..
